Hey guys, thank you for waiting!

All images have been updated, and I threw in a little bonus that simulates fire flickering.

Enjoy :)

This is really nice and helpful!

One question tho:

Let's say I want to add some kind of fireflies - they are moving around at night. The movement is random..

Is there a way to add this effect somehow to them?

As the light is 1 Tile under the event, I have a hard time figuring out, how to make it move with the fireflies ;o

Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm still a beginner with RPGM :S

Hello Henryetha, that won't be possible, what you can do is edit the butterfly graphic and add a light graphic above it. You won't be able to give it additive blending though as it would make the butterfly look transparent. But it should give a close enough effect.

NO NEED FOR SCRIPTS YAY. One problem tho: When I try to use the orange light, it appears as blue in-game.

Hey guys...I need to ask which folder to place this light image in? (apologies for the noob question)

I tried it with a generic fire image and it kind of works, and I thought I should put the image in the games picture file but it doesn't show in the list of images I can use for the event. Any help here will be much appreciated.

Little problem here. I remember I had done it before and it worked well, But now the light is extremely dull. In fact its yust an flickering blue or orange shadow and doesnt enlighten anything. Its not even close to the light in the pictures. So what am I doing wrong?

Sorry for the late response, put the image in the "Characters" folder, remember to change the name to what I indicate in the tutorial.

Verify if you added the command "blending: add" to the event's move rout.

I remember using this for my first game and it worked like a charm! Definitely an easy trick for people new to RPG Maker or who want to avoid scripts if possible.

As Engr.Adiktuzmiko said he fixed it with his auto-untint script, I suggest you search the Scripts section of the forum for it.

Not sure if anyone is still actually watching this thread, but I'd like to say this works brilliantly.

I am however hoping someone could help me out with something.
As I said I love this lighting effect. In fact I may actually like it too much.
I have a game in development that takes place in an ancient Egyptian-like temple/pyramid.
As such I have a lot of torches on the walls in areas. I would like each of these torches to have this
amazing lighting effect as it adds so much. Unfortunately, I'm beginning to notice a bit of lag.
I've tried several anti-lag scripts with seemingly no effect.
I suppose I could just use this in special areas for dramatic effect, and just use the default wall sconce
image everywhere else, but I'm wondering if I have any other options before resorting to this.

As an example I have a large central hub area.
The map size is 31 x 28. I have 40 torches scattered across that map. It sounds like a lot, but they are actually spaced out
pretty evenly across the map. The lag isn't terrible but it's just noticeable enough to be distracting.
Another thing to point out is I have about 50 other random events for all sorts of things on that map.
Some are only active at certain points in the game. Some are just as simple as doorways etc.
So a little over 90 events total on one map.

Am I just going overboard with the lighting here?
Is it my eventing? I am still relatively new to RPG Maker.
I really like the way the map looks as it is. All 40 torches and everything. I don't even know if the fact that my laptop is definitely a bit on the slow side to begin with has anything to do with it. I do know that there are many variables that can contribute to lag.
But to put it in perspective, I have another area that has 40 cats wandering around a desert oasis. (It's a strange game.)
And I have no issues there.

I guess I'm just wondering if I can try anything else before resorting to cutbacks so to speak.
The reason I'm posting here instead of maker specific is that without this lighting effect there wasn't any noticeable lag.

As always any help is appreciated.
Thank you.

EDIT: Actually upon replaying just now the lag in the above-mentioned area is well within tolerable limits. It seemed so much worse when I posted this. Strange.

However, I would still like some feedback to avoid potential problems with lag and
this effect if anyone is willing.

Please and thank you.

I'm here to teach you a very very easy way of doing lighting effects without using any kind of script or complicated stuff.

This tutorial is Beginner Friendly.

After this tutorial you'll have something like this:

So Let's Start!

#1 - Set up your map and place an event of a fire (Stepping Anim & Direction Fix checked).

oFMErUs.png

#2 - Just in the tile below create another event with the following characteristics:

- Stepping Anim, Direction Fix & Through checked.

- Priority: Above Characters

- Speed: 4x Faster

- Frequence: Highest

- Movement Type: Custom

- Click the button "Move Route..." and place the following commands in order:

- Change Blending: Add

- Uncheck "Repeat Action"

- Add this image as the graphic:

Name the file "!$Light 1" if it's not by default.

You should have something like this:

#4 - (Optional) Create another event anywhere. Make it a Parallel process. Insert the Event Command "Tint Screen" and click in the button "Night" or just make a dark tint. Set the Time to 1 frame and click OK.

Insert the Event Command "Erase Event".

#5 - Copy and paste to have multiple lights.

Test it and experiment new things!

#6 *BONUS - For a fire flicker effect following the following guidelines:

Edit the Glow event. In "Autonomous movement" choose "Custom" and click on "Move Route..." Insert the following commands:

GrandmaDeb also found other light graphics that you may like:
