Hello =3

Long time silent researcher, first time poster here...  :D (<-- awkward me)

I'm making a game that uses busts for the more important cutscenes (for the first time). I've avoided it in the past because I don't understand scripts at all (I've read lots but it just hasn't clicked for me), and I'd want the pictures to be in front of the text boxes, like so:

There is a screenshot of my game currently attached, or follow this link:

http://girlgamesgalactica.tumblr.com/image/58224088350 )

Anyway. From what I understand, all I want is a "simple" script that has pictures automatically over the text. I've been searching everywhere, but I can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for...

...Or else it's possible I have and I just really don't get how to add scripts to my game.

Either way, I'm hoping that you geniuses can help me~~

I'd really like a non-complicated script (if that exists?) with some very specific instructions... That would be absolutely wonderful~

Additional notes: I am sorry if there *is* already a script for this, I did read through many, but most of them were too complicated for me, and I couldn't make heads/tails of this problem. Thank you so much in advance =3

There is one simple script by Fomar, it's inside one of the ReStaff Releases, Sept12.

You need to give the bust pictures a special name, after that you can select them like face pictures and the script will change the display if it sees that you selected a bust picture instead of a face on "show text".

No changes or configuration needed for the script or the commands, you just have to include the ! in the filename of bust pictures and place them in the face folder.

There are scripts that give more options, but you asked for one that is as simple to use as possible - and I think this one is it...

Modern algebra also release ATS face option recently. But I agree with andar. Formar might be simpler.

Thanks for getting back to me! :D   I've considered Fomar's script (and knowing that it's easy to use is reassuring!)

...but I was kind of hoping to not use them in place of faces, because I like the freedom of moving the bust pictures wherever I want, which to my understanding isn't possible with this script.

If there's not a simple fix, this is what I'll end up using =3

Thanks again ~

With fomar's script, you can choose to use a face or a bust, but that's it.

There are scripts that allow you to change the position of the bust - but in that case the scripts usually require you to use script commands to tell them where to display the bust, they don't magically read your mind to learn where it's supposed to be.

That's the choice you have to make - simple scripts mean less facts to learn, but also have less options. Doing whatever you want requires you to learn how to configure or rewrite the scripts...

I just thought there might be a way (with scripts) to change the priority so that pictures appear over the text box, and not the other way around. (I'm okay with 100% of the pictures covering the text box) I'd still have to set up the busts with an "insert picture" command and manually enter the coordinates, to command where the graphic would go.

I thought that would be possible... but if not, Fomar's script will definitely work, so thank you for pointing me in that direction =3

Alternative if you prefer show choice event command.

You can make your picture sized as your screen...

Here's the trick:

- create blank transparent image sized as your screen.

- position your actor where you want to put him.

Save as .png to keep transparency.

3) Show picture. Put it at 0,0.

The downside. Might fatten the size of your project a little bit.

Still need to modify the picture z though.

This sounds like something that I want!

Ummm... what's the "picture z" and how do I modify that?    (I'm assuming this is not referring to changing the size of the pictures, because that would be redundant...?)

Thanks for your help =3

Bump.

Sorry, but so far the suggestions either haven't been explained well enough (even after PM) OR they didn't actually do what I was asking for.

Thanks for all the help so far

How did you do the screenshot in the first post? Is it a photoshopped image?

Cause a script modification would be required for whatever method you decide to use.

The first image is merely an example pulled from the internets of how I'd like the cutscenes to look -- it's not actually from my game.

The second (and third images) ((Follow links)) are directly from my game and have not been edited in any way.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
