Ok, I am lost as to what video recording software I should use to put videos of my game up on youtube.  I would want something that can cut off parts of the game that I do not want to show.

Thank you for any suggestions. :)

The best thing you can use is a studio-type recording program, but they can be expensive. Like Sony Vegas or Camtasia.

Bandicam and fraps are cheap alternatives, but fraps makes huge file sizes.

I am not going to do it often enough to warrant spending tons of money (want to save them for commisions :p  ), but how big of file sizes?  I have a terabyte harddrive, so how many videos could I store?

Well, if you need free video-editing software, I suggest using VirtualDub to edit and either FRAPS or CamStudio for recording.  Mind you, FRAPS is not freeware, but it's at a fair price and CamStudio is free, but can be laggy.

A terabyte is plenty, lol. You can always try to convert a fraps recording into another format to save space if needed.

    Yeah go with fraps.

I use HyperCam2 for recording as that comes free, and also allows you to choose which part of your screen you want to record... and so far, FRAPS seems to be not working that fine anymore with me + FRAPS AFAIK is only usable for programs using OpenGL...

    For editing, I use Vegas...

Also, normally the raw files can be large... If I know I'm not gonna use them further, I use those raw files directly on Vegas and just delete the raw files after the final video is rendered... but if I know I might need the raws, I convert and compress them first using AVS converter (normally into AVI or mp4 using XVid or H.264 codec)

FRAPS works with RM as long as it's in fullscreen, IIRC, but that has it's issues as well.  Still, something to think about.
