Again, thank you very much for tying the game, pointing out the bug and offering the help with opening music... tho I have to say, we cannot pay you but we are willing to trade skills, credit you in the game and give you a free copy of the game once finished and our eternal gratitude... I hope is that okay with you.

I downloaded and tried the game now and I must say it's pretty good so far. Some comments:

A ) Make a Youtube version of your intro right now and put it on the top of your project thread. It's well made and will attract many people into playing it.

B )I sometimes have a problem with the dialogues. It's a mistake I used to make as well because I also mix visual novel with rpg elements. Anyway when Haru walks the wrong way she says "This isn't the right way", followed by "Haru realized this isn't the right way". When I met the monster, same thing: "As I turn around I see a monster etc." Yes I can see that myself by playing the game itself too!

Take the comments as a compliment, I only tend to give feedback on projects I see a future for :)

This demo seemed to have been positively received so far....now get ready for some harsh criticism. Keep in mind the following is just my 2 cents.

Design

1. Why do you have in game graphics in your intro movie? It killed the mood and coolness of the movie and felt out of place.

2. Menu wallpaper is kinda annoying and distracting.

3. Haru is not a silent protagonist and you have graphics showing things..I dont need every scene to be explained to me.

4. Mog loading screen? Cmon it is very annoying, what makes you think people want to wait another 3 seconds and look at a book.

5. Mog map name is annoying too. Also lets say you are in the dorm then you get out and the map name appears...that does not make sense you did not just got to the dorm you have been there already.

6. The transition from the shrine to the forest needs to be more smooth (fade bgm, fade tint instead of what you are doing it feels weird)

7. You give the player choices so it feels like you can control her personality but her battle voice has 1 clear personality.

8. When you leave a map from the road you get transferred to the next map but your on the side walk..why?

9. There are two people talking in front of school and they have comments on top..why only them? aren't others talking too? keep it consistent.

10. Walking up to your bedroom is annoying, can you make a transfer somehow from the lobby?

Mapping

1. Exterior mapping is generally nice.

2. Interior mapping is awful. So much blank open space, just look at the school 2nd and 3rd floor..you cant possibly think that's sexy mapping.

3. Map error drink vending machine both lobby and 2nd floor.

Bugs.

1. Khas lighting turns on a split second after you enter the room, looks sloppy.

2. When use Ice prison, Haru says the "damaged voice" then after the animation she does the same voice again.

3. When using a tonic you get the "recovery voice" Twice.

4. Little dialogue errors here and there.

5. I cant save more then twice? Or I cant save when I close the program then reopen the program.

Suggestions

1. Have cars drive by, that would be cool.

2. I also hope that the RTP tiles and music are just place holders (this is commercial)

3. And everything else in the Design list.

What I like

1. Decent artwork and OC

2. Nice intro movie minus..the in game graphics.

3. Nice INTRO! I was hooked! Then I woke up and it got boring.

4. I like what happens to people when they die in the "dream"

5. Nice eventing skills.

I know I sound harsh and that I think it is a bad game, but overall I feel like this is a decent game. Very above average, commercial quality? No. But then again it is just my 2 cents. You definitely have the skills to make a good game. Hope you made use of my critics. :)

Edit: I forgot to add. You say that even though persona is an inspiration, this game is it's own thing. I disagree I think this is a complete rip from persona, which is not a bad thing.

Edit: I forgot to add. You say that even though persona is an inspiration, this game is it's own thing. I disagree I think this is a complete rip from persona, which is not a bad thing.
I'd say I disagree. The game is obviously not perfect but it is a very good game and one of the few I have ever play as a DEMO and love it, as I have tried many bad games. The intro is awesome, and the characters are interesting as well as the story. Clearly, the developers are not trying to make a perfect ground breaking game of the centuries but give damn good effort to the demo and make it simple and cool.

Frankly saying, I am not an RPGmaker user, I just browsed here and there to tried the demo/full games occasionally, and most of the flaw you said doesn't even bother me at all aside from bugs, as a player though. I don't know about eventing, mapping nor anything, and I don't really care if the room has spaces at all (as a player). But one legit point : I DO want a shortcut to the bed... it's a pain to go around.

Above average? No, I disagree, this is one of the most attractive game I've ever play. Yeah, it still need to be polished, I won't deny it, but the game has its charms, markings of a good game.

And about being Persona Rip-Off, here I fully disagree with you. I have played both Persona 3 and 4 about 2-3 times, and I'd say it's not a rip-off at all. The game has Persona game mechanic but that doesn't make it a rip of. The setting, the atmosphere and the characters are all different. It has the similar mechanics, but play out differently. Like Crash, of Naughty Dog and Mario, of Nintendo. It's ridiculous if you say Crash is a rip-off of Mario.

Of course, needless to say, what we all said are all opinions and not facts. The game being good or bad, I really don't care but I'd say I would pay for this game, if not overprice that's it, for it's one attractive game for me. So developers, good job, you've got my two thumbs-up.

PS. Oh wait, It isn't like I don't have my own issue for the game. I agree with what gRaViJa said... the use of narrative is simply too much. It can be funny at times, but sometime it's outright annoying. Maybe, don't take out the narrative completely but try to limit the use of it. Like using only when necessary.

It is very nice to see the thoughts of a player. As developers we just see the games very differently.

W-wow, a lot of feed backs!!!

@ gRaViJa : Oh, the movie is just a stand-in one. We will polish it up and we need to. Only then I think I'll show it on my topic. I have thought of it before, but my artist turn downed the idea said she want to make it even more polished. Yes yes, about narrative part, I put them there just to make the story more amusing and to give mental image support for the players in some scenes, but , as you've said, I kinda trigger-happy with it ... and it backfired.Btw Haru is a semi-silent character, like Shepherd from Mess Effect (3 especially).

@ NinjaChrome : Ah... yes, I really appreciate your criticisms. When I test play the game myself, I have the same feeling as you do (for most of the part). I came to realization since long time ago that it's our developer mind-set.

I even tested it out with my testers. I let them play one of the awesome game demo (I won't mention the name) which has very powerful mapping (almost the state of art), with a lot of custom sprites and tile and awesome battle system, that rivaled even AAA PSP title like Lunar Silver Star Harmony, and one of the demo that used mainly RTP and just functional mapping, with a lot of attractive dialogs and characters(a popular commercial game, I won't mention the name here).

Most of my testers are either just casual players or RPG freaks, but no RM-users, and you'll be surprised that 90% of them really don't care about all the skills we value as RMuser. They love the RTP game as much as they love the super awesome custom-everything game. Some casual players are even turn off by the super awesome game's very complex battle system. So, I concluded, for them... a game is a game, as they won't look anything deeper than that.

Thank you very much for very detailed developer's point of view feedback, and don't worry, we take them with respect, we'll try to fix the flaw you mention in future update, if they are within our capability :)

@=Yaho, Actually, I appreciate both opinions for my game, good or bad. But thanks for saying this is not a rip-off (for IMO, I think I did my best not to make it a clone). Lemme give the another example, Monster Hunter and Gods Eater. Similar mechanic, style and gameplay (almost Identical) but it'd be very unfair to say GE is a MH rip-off. (off topic: I enjoyed playing them both, clocked over 1000 hours for MHP3 and 300+ for GE B-) ) And yes, I'll be more careful with using narrative. :)

Thank you all for trying the game and giving feedback :) the game is only about 20% finished and a lot of things/flaws can be fixed. If you are disappointed by the game, please give us another chance with new version update. :)

Like graphic violence and nudity, using rtp will also limit where you can sell your game. Serious, host sites will look at that. Keep that in mind.

I've only played it for a little bit, so I can only give some initial impressions;

It looks very impressive, with the opening movie and lighting effects. Though you really should revise the writing, there are little mistakes and it feels a little stilted.

While it does give a bit of a persona vibe, it actually reminds me more of Silent Hill so far :p

I'll try and give a more thorough critique when I have more time to play it :)

Hey, Somael. Since you've agreed to play-test my game, I thought it only appropriate that I do the same for you. :)

I have found quite a lot of good things and bad things in this demo. Some of the bad things were already mentioned by NinjaChrome but I'll go ahead and echo things whether they were mentioned before or not.

-Opening is awesome!

-But I agree with Ninja that the in-game graphics mess it up. I would get those out of there. Is that an original song for the game? Just curious.

-The story and setting and all that seem very good but there are several big things that I would love to see fixed in the final version.

-You need someone with exceptional grammar to proof-read the ENTIRE game. Spelling and grammar errors are plentiful and you definitely don't want that hurting your professional image on your first commercial release.

-Like Ninja said, you have a LOT of text that explains every little thing you character is doing. I would remove as much of that as possible. Showing is better than telling.

-The clock ticking SE is too loud, I think. That could grind on people's nerves after a while.

-What you are trying to achieve with your interior maps is good. You just need to shrink everything down to remove all the empty space and you'll be good. FF6 doesn't have that much walking space and it works well.

-The blowing leaves at school are beautiful!

-The text of random people's conversation on screen at the school is GENIUS! I want to do that when I make an RPG!

Overall, this is going to be a great game, I think. There are lots of Zelda clones out there. I don't know of any Persona clones. Make it a good one and you could possibly get a lot of sales for this. I would buy it. I've got to say, I can KIND of see why people look down on RTP. Although, the graphics didn't bother me, hearing the same sound effects and music that are in my own game kind of bothered me. I will have an original soundtrack but going a step further and having original sound effects would do wonders for our games as well. So that's what I'm going to do. It sounds like you have a need for heavy metal. I unfortunately do not have time to write an entire game soundtrack for free but I would love to contribute a couple of metal songs to your game and be credited for them in the credits and/or documentation. Are you interested in something like that?

Let's both work hard and put in the effort to make our games as awesome as they can be, Somael!

Thanks for having a go at VSI demo :)

About the opening movie... actually that one was the one we put in at the start of the project. I don't even plan to use it in the current demo, it was the last minute decision (and up to the last minute insistence of my artist) that I put opening movie in the demo. She said she'll polish it later, for now, just use this as a demo stand-in.

Oh no, the song is not our original, we just used it as another stand-in (Die Schwarzen Reiter, the song name). Now that TYG4R is helping us with an opening theme song, I think we'll change the whole opening movie in future update, with new song (He has our forever gratitude).

This game is barely finished 20%. I think I gave the wrong impression by saying this is a polished up demo of full version, actually it's just a test-play demo of what we would like to do in the future. A lot of contents will be changed. Like empty spaces in school corridor, which I intend to fill with NPCs in the full version. This game had just barely passed the early development stage. This demo is just a tip of an iceberg, the full version/later update will be much more polished.

Narrative, I admit I overused them to the point of pure annoyance. I'll cut them down and use only when I want to create mental image/atmosphere for the player. It'll be only used for amusement :) .

I had already requested the song for opening from TYG4R. But I'd like to use metal songs for battles, like Boss battles :) . Please, I am interested in using them, and they will be credited fully both in-game and additional documentation. Thanks for helping us with OSTs, TYG4R and Zoltan since this what we need the most.

Thanks for all the feedbacks :)

Okay, I think I've played enough to give a decent critique.

The For Dummies stuff at the beginning might be a problem, they'll be copyrighted.

The opening movie, while impressive, it is annoying that it can't be skipped.

Some of the maps seem to be overly large and some seem to lag a fair bit.

I certainly see the Persona in this now; the beginning still reminds me of Silent Hill so a game that seems to cross those will always be interesting :p .

I do need to say again about the dialogue; it is obvious that English isn't your first language and it is hard to become immersed into the game with so many little mistakes and strange choices of words.

Anyway, the game does look very interesting but still needs some polish :)

Thanks for the feedback, The Dialogs become no.1 in "To Fix" list :( . *The quest for a proof reader begins!

Many materials such as dummies we used in game will be removed in full version. They are just stand-in materials. The mapping will be revised also, either filled with NPCs or cut the spaces :) .

Ah yes, Silent Hill is one of the many games that inspired this game. Especially the first dungeon, as I want to create the atmospherically haunting dungeon and some psychological horror stuff. We even put a tint of Corpse Party inspiration in first dungeon.

Time for polishing up :)

I'm more than happy to offer my service in this regard.

Though I think I would recommend a couple; not everyone will catch everything - I know my English isn't perfect either :p

Plus you could break the script up so people arrn't all doing the same bits and get done faster :p

I really appreciate the offer :) . Of cuz, you are very much welcome :)

The game is only about 20% finished tho. I think it's better to start proof-reading only after the game has been finally developed (or at least beta version)

We'll PM you again, if you are still interested to do by that time :) . Keep in touch with us :)

I have to say of all the demos I've played on this site your demo is the first I've seen at least that uses a movie like intro. Made me feel like it was a professional game. And the first room scared me to death but I'm easily scared but it really gave me the impression that I should look at every corner. So you did a great job in creating the mood. After that I have to admit I like the real life stuff, nothing terrible and I enjoy the cast so far. Perhaps have some sort of skip function though just in case people don't want to go through an intro or a long scene they have already encountered? Also I have encountered the bug where if I exit the game and come back I can't save. So I'm not yet done with the demo but I'll see how long I'll last without saving. So far I haven't even finished a week but I must say this is an amazing start for your game for a demo. I can't wait to see more of it once you smooth out the rough edges. When I do finish the demo I'll give you my full impression. So far good job~

That's fine. Do you have an ETA on the game yet btw?

A few comments I forgot to add to my mini review;

I did like the little name change joke with the teacher (Akira maybe? I forget :p ) It's little touches like this that really help a game, if you ask me :p

While I do like that the dialogue of all the environmental characters seem to change just about every day, the fact that they pretty much stay put, makes the environments feel a bit static.

Oh!!! If you have problem saving it, try to run the game as administrator (Right click and Choose 'Run as administrator). It'll solve the problem :)

Thanks for trying out the game :) . We will add the skipping functions in future update (like skipping movie and giving short cuts to places). Do give us your feedback once you finished the game :)

Err... that's a bit difficult to guess,it will take another 4-5 months at least to produce a beta version (owning to the fact we can only work on the game only at the free time).

I am,happy that you enjoy the small little jokes that I put. My effort don't go to waste I guess :)

Just finished your demo and I was highly impressed with what has been made. As I've stated the game has great atmosphere and I rather enjoy the little everyday life aspects. All the characters are done well and really show their different attitudes. Activities to do after school look fun and I can't wait to see the whole town and school being filled up with all the clubs and part time jobs it could offer. The art is just darn amazing and of course a lot of praise for making an intro. Now my few problems, first the townspeople, seeing them stand in place while doing the walking motions just look very odd they look better either walking around or just standing still. Also there was an issue where I opened a treasure chest and went to leave the room and when I did I noticed the animation of the chest went back to being unopened, so I went back and it was unopened again and I got more treasure again. I've tried to see if it would happen again but so far it hasn't. Thought it should be mentioned though. I love the mapping of the towns as they look so alive. However the school and dorms seem a little lacking? Surely though this is a demo so I know a lot will probably be revamped. And finally the final boss was just a jerk, there's hard and then there is just unfair. For a first (or second?) boss it just seemed like the difficulty is unkind. If you want to grab hard core rpg fans, while the boss was hard it is beatable once you get it. But from the start of your game you make it that you also want to grab new time rpg players and not sure if that boss is a good tutorial for those players. To me the first bosses should be almost like a tutorial, learning how to use your allies better and your own moves. Later on when you have the arsenal and team members should be when you go full force with bosses. And not just the bosses but the enemies as well. For being at the start of the game, and the second time you enter that place, unless you have the right summoning equipped before the battle you are screwed and it was a hard lesson indeed. I was honestly almost afraid of attacking the lesser for enemies for extra exp because they would kill me so easily. There really needs to be a balance. Also was it me or was when I was attacking the boss and it did a fire move on my team it said I was weak to it and yet I could null it? I would have to go back and check it lol. I can say though that once I killed that monster I did feel very accomplished xD (or just very lucky). Overall the demo is amazing and everyone should check it out, I'm glad I checked it out and I'll look forward to more updates =D

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
