Just finished your demo and I was highly impressed with what has been made. As I've stated the game has great atmosphere and I rather enjoy the little everyday life aspects. All the characters are done well and really show their different attitudes. Activities to do after school look fun and I can't wait to see the whole town and school being filled up with all the clubs and part time jobs it could offer. The art is just darn amazing and of course a lot of praise for making an intro. Now my few problems, first the townspeople, seeing them stand in place while doing the walking motions just look very odd they look better either walking around or just standing still. Also there was an issue where I opened a treasure chest and went to leave the room and when I did I noticed the animation of the chest went back to being unopened, so I went back and it was unopened again and I got more treasure again. I've tried to see if it would happen again but so far it hasn't. Thought it should be mentioned though. I love the mapping of the towns as they look so alive. However the school and dorms seem a little lacking? Surely though this is a demo so I know a lot will probably be revamped. And finally the final boss was just a jerk, there's hard and then there is just unfair. For a first (or second?) boss it just seemed like the difficulty is unkind. If you want to grab hard core rpg fans, while the boss was hard it is beatable once you get it. But from the start of your game you make it that you also want to grab new time rpg players and not sure if that boss is a good tutorial for those players. To me the first bosses should be almost like a tutorial, learning how to use your allies better and your own moves. Later on when you have the arsenal and team members should be when you go full force with bosses. And not just the bosses but the enemies as well. For being at the start of the game, and the second time you enter that place, unless you have the right summoning equipped before the battle you are screwed and it was a hard lesson indeed. I was honestly almost afraid of attacking the lesser for enemies for extra exp because they would kill me so easily. There really needs to be a balance. Also was it me or was when I was attacking the boss and it did a fire move on my team it said I was weak to it and yet I could null it? I would have to go back and check it lol. I can say though that once I killed that monster I did feel very accomplished xD (or just very lucky). Overall the demo is amazing and everyone should check it out, I'm glad I checked it out and I'll look forward to more updates =D
Glad that you enjoy the game :) .

About that walking animation NPCs, it's just my preference... cuz the game like, such as, Lunar Silver Star Story on PS1 and Dragon Quest have that kind of walking animation NPCs.

For battles, I took inspiration from older SMT games, Monster Hunter and Dark Souls, all based on one aspect, learn your enemy and be prepared or die horribly. And btw the treasure chest, they randomly re-spawn, like FF XII (holding random treasures), it's not a glitch :)

Oh I see it all makes sense now about the chest, it must've just caught me off guard then when I saw it change suddenly when I changed maps lol and yeah about the difficulty I could tell your inspiration was for those games...I still think sometimes it can be unfair (I have played just about all the games you've mentioned) but you can't please everyone and that's all right, I just have to get better xD and like I mentioned I did feel really overjoyed when I did defeat the boss so I can't say you're doing it wrong then

Oh yeah, that's another thing I forgot to mention, I think you should let the player know more about weaknesses. Sure you have a Dark Souls inspiration, but there's sadistic (SMT) and unholy evil (Dark Souls, oh god that game -_-). Some of them are quite misleading, the ants are weak to water/ ice and not fire.? I know you want the player to learn from their mistakes but there are quite a few players who like to grind and/or don't save as often as most. So when a loss comes round it tends to induce a rage-quit more than a "Damn, that was my fault, let me try again." :p

I also think there should be a small tutorial or some note about learning skills early on since the MC already has quite a bit of JP once Manifestation becomes available~

Just my thoughts is all :)

Played the demo. Very nice movie at the start, the RTP music is good and all but the use of it was missplaced in a few spots. Over all I can see what you are tyring to do and it might work with a bit more polish. Narrow the halls and walk ways abit, it felt to me that the living spaces where a bit big (kinda felt like a smurf in the human world.) But the over all experience is well concived and enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out in the final release :)  Keep up the good work.

The battles are not that hard, but I made a poor job of explaining the basic concept. I hastily added the tutorial and it isn't very helpful for the players. I'll add more info about exploiting weakness and switching manifestation. Hmm.. tho, I agree that the game can be a bit overwhelming for casual player... Maybe I should I add the option to choose the difficulty...

Yes, I am fixing the map. Either cutting down the spaces or add NPCs... Thanks for playing our game :)

Urgh! My Ni no Kuni copy hasn't arrived yet... Geez! So I ended up carry on with VSI project :)

- Add a lot of Original Monsters (credits go to my artist)
- A new event based mini-game has been added.
-Fixing bugs and errors. Ninja Chrome was right, I left so many places pretty blunt and unpolished.

Could be worse I suppose. Could have bought the digital version, payed more and still not be able to play it :p

Okay, finally finished playing Ni no Kuni :)

This is one helluva game :) . Taught me many things about making a great RPG with simple story and characters :)

Project VSI is now resume... it's good to be back again.

The game is steadily being developed and things work just fine. We'll update the demo with fixed and new original arts ... soon :)

Okay, here comes the big update for the project!

We started this project as our initial project, the one which could help us gather more manpower and resources for next and next upcoming projects.It was intended to go commercial, but regarded as our starter project. But then, we realised that we have the potential to make it more than just a starter :) Now, we planned to add more and more custom, exclusive to this game only stuff, as much as we can.

Update : We are making custom sprites ourselves. Here are some examples.

Just took a quick glance over the thread, you seem to have a lot of work done for this game and I'm very impressed. I'll have to come back and try out the demo soon.

This is a busy week for both me and my artist. She worked hard and gimme loads of custom sprite sets and I have to remake the maps/scenes and all the fixes becuz the new character sprites are two times the size of original sprite sets.

Update time, again!

It's traditional new year time for us, Burmese, so we (especially I) do nothing this week XD.
But my artist, ever diligent, gave me some more custom sprites.

Good demo, I thoroughly enjoyed it although when I reached to the part where you get the first Manifestation for Yuriko I began to struggle as I couldn't really use the abbilites given to me as much as I wanted thus making it a more catious strategy to fight up to the point I was struggling to progress into the demo since there was no place to rest or I couldn't find any I couldn't quite complete it. Just a note, though, so far is a pretty decent and enjoyable game, the side things you can do kept the pace going and reminding me of Persona 3. c:

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
