I want to set a new game so I can develop it using parallax mapping techniques.

That means I wanna use two pictures, one under the hero level and one above that level.

I can understand how to make such pictures using image editing software and layers, so let's not bother with that part.

Also I know what to do with the transparent tiles with different passabilities.

The questions are more about what is needed for it to work and how some stuff work.

I want to understand a little better and also learn what is NEEDED to achieve this.

For instance:

1]  I have seen a tutorial here, that uses:

Yanfly Engine Ace - Parallax Lock v1.00

        I understand what this does.

The tutorials then says we need a picture lock script.

a] What EXACTLY is this needed for?

b] Also, if someone can contact Modern Algebra I would love to hear from him if his script is free for commercial use.

I tried using this forum but... you know, I don't think he saw my message yet.

c] Is there any known free for commercial use scripts I can use for that matter? I like to use stuff with such freedom and of course I have no problem at all in giving credit. Sometimes I give credit even on CC(0) stuff. Anyway.

d] Doing some research I found a script but I am just not sure 100% if it can do the job.

Can you please tell me if I can use THIS and how?

Here is a link to that:

         http://www.rpgmakervxace.net/topic/4021-gds-ultimate-parallax/

2] What I wanna do is use Khas scripts like Awesome effects, pixel movement, etc etc,

while having Luna Engine doing neat stuff like nice menus,

and of course having maps that show a picture under the player character, and a picture above him,

keeping the Khas light effect intact.

a] Can I do this with anything I mentioned from the above?\

b] If not can you suggest me a way?

Thanks in advance.

PS:

Not sure if that's the right place for posting this, since it is for VX Ace but scripts are involved.

I will send a report, so a moderator can classify it under the appropriate group if needed.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

1) You need a lock because otherwise as the player moved (e.g. from left to right) the parallax would move with them.  This may be fine in e.g. an outer space setting, but in e.g. a forest, you want that tree to stay put!  Yanfly's script gives you some options about how to lock it.  I always use <tile lock parallax>

Have you tried contacting Modern Algebra on his own website?  It's http://rmrk.net

Yanfly's is free for commercial.

I've not used that linked script, so have no comment.

2) Khas Awesome Lighting script comes up with stunning regularity from people finding bugs/incompatibilities/difficult to understand etc.  This may not be the best place to start with your lighting.  Depending on what you want to do, there are lots of alternatives, including evented methods, and overlays which gives excellent results without the same problems.  It is, imo, worth thinking very hard before incorporating this particular script into your project.

Luna Engine - no reason at all why it would interfere with parallax maps.

EDIT

Just noticed that at the end of your question (1) you switched to picture lock.  Not the same thing as parallax lock, as a picture could be anything, and is usually above the map, whereas usually the parallax is either underneath the map, or is the map.  If you are using a parallax, you need a parallax lock script.  If you are using a picture (e.g. a lighting overlay) then you need a picture lock script, for the same reason that you need a parallax lock script.

If this is the Modern Algebra script you wanted to use, I can tell you that the TOS is a free copy of the game.  I use it for lighting overlays, and of the two options he gives, I use the simple method of putting [FIXED] before the file name.  Works perfectly.

Thank you for clarifying this.

Also thanks for the terms. I already contacted him via his forum, and hopefully he will reply to me to have an official answer.

Then I will ask if I can share his reply with this forum and post it here.

Till then this is solved but please mods do not close the thread. I will send a report when everything is done.

Moving to RGSSx Script Support, since all of your questions are about specific scripts.

I am perfectly fine with anybody using any script of mine in a commercial project, with or without credit. I usually say that I would appreciate a free copy of the game when it's released, but that is not a necessary condition.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
