VX Ace Project runs slow on fullscreen

Everytime I go fullscreen my VX Ace project becomes really slow (~11fps or so). I tried creating a new project and I ended up with the same situation. My machine is not bad at all (8RAM, i7, GeForce GT740M), I got it around two months ago and only use for game dev work.

Does anyone has a clue about this?  Thanks

That is odd. The only thing I could think is that for some reason it isn't using your gpu like it should... do you ever have issues with anything else?

You mean with any other game? I haven't installed any games but I've played a few 3D shooters on kongregate and they ran just fine.

RM doesn't preform all to good in those kind of situations, your best bet is to use a script like the full screen ++ one if you want to run it in that state. But I agree it does drop even on my machine.

The default engine shouldn't drop like that on modern machines. The reasom for your problem could either be something in your project (a script or a bad designed common event on parallel or something like this), or it could be a background conflict (there is a virus scanner that constantly tries to block RM for example).

Please download the Crysalis sample game (download area top right) and test with that game unchanged.

Also please test if the framedrop happens in the playtest (started from the editor) or from the regular game.exe start or on both.

Good call on that Andar, it's truly possible. Anti-Virus software does go nuts sometimes around RM a lot.

I thought it was something with my game but I tried with a brand new project with nothing in it and I have the same issue. The framedrop happens on both scenarios (from game.exe and from the editor).

I looked for the Crysalis game you said but didn't find in the download section. o_O

but didn't find in the download section.
NOT the download center in the third line - the download section at top (first line) right, between "Products" and "Support" - and then select "sample games" in the dropdown menu.

Oh. Ok, now I see it. Played it a bit and the problem still happens though.

then it's most probably something on your windows that's causing problems, and not depending on the contents of the project.

Please check your background programs.

Also, I know this is a silly question but are your graphics card drivers up to date?

dbyrd26, please avoid double posting, as it is against the forum rules. You can review our forum rules here. Thank you.

I've been using this machine for two months now.
Then it's most probably something you installed as background program - or you made a mistake when installing the computer.
Which chipset does your mainboard have, and when during install did you install it's drivers? For most chipsets, their drivers need to be installed before anything else, and usually the chipset drivers doesn't register as missing because Microsoft uses universal default drivers (which are by design very slow) to be able to install Windows (you can't even install windows without having chipset drivers, but microsoft can't know every chipset and write drivers for it - that's why they have to use slow universal drivers that need to be replaced first after installing windows. And a lot of people don't know that and keep the slow drivers because they only install drivers that are listed as missing).

Did you install the Intel acceleration drivers when installing you computer? I don't remember how exactly they were called, but they're needed to operate your computer at full speed.

However, in the case of intel chipsets the MS drivers aren't as bad as in case of some other chipset manufacturers...

I'm not sure. I found it weird because my computer lists more then one vide card. The Intel Graphics HD one the Nvidia GeForce so. How can I test to see if those acceleration drivers are up to date?

the Intel HD is mainly used for the desktop, because it's very bad at 3D functions but uses only a low amount of power. The NVidia is activated for 3D graphics (which use a lot of power) and deactivated at other times. Such a setup has become common especially with notebooks because it give the best from both parts - less power consumption on regular work while still having the ability for powerfull 3D games.

The accelleration drivers have nothing to do with the graphics - they're mainly for your hard drives. And usually they're listed in the software list of your computer (this might have changed, it's been a year or two since I last had to install them).

Are you using Windows 8? There is a known bug with the default full screen mode and FPS loss (https://getsatisfaction.com/rpgmaker/topics/windows_8_fullscreen_lag_please_pleaaasee_help). For what it's worth, I can duplicate this on my own machine with a 680 GTX / quad i7 / 16gb RAM... The game runs poorly using the .exe's default full screen functionality. On my machine, I'll get roughly ~25 FPS using the default .exe fullscreen, and a full 60 FPS at native rez or using an alternative fullscreen script. (Should be able to easily reproduce this on video for anyone interested using Nvidia Shadowplay).

I'd recommend you try Fulscreen++. It's an alternative full screen solution, found here: http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/14081-fullscreen/

It's a smarter, dramatically more efficient fullscreen solution that uses nearest-neighbor resizing.

Edited to add: whatever you do, do not wipe your OS over RPG Maker. For the love of pete...

I was just thinking (I should have mentioned I'm on this damn windowns 8)... Will look into your alternatives and get back here later ;)

Edit: So anyone with windows 8 that goes full screen will have problems running my game then?

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
