then most probably you placed it in the wrong folder - can you tell us which files you copied where?

A lot of screenshots - and none shows where you copied the files to inside your project folder.

Are the json files you got from the converter inside the data folder, or did you create a new folder inside that structure? Did you override the files that existed in the MV project when you pasted the files from the Ace project? All files in your data folder should have the same date - the date when the converter was run.

can you verify that the files actually did get copied?  You need to copy/paste the contents of the folder, not the entire folder itself.  What's in the mv-data folder in your Ace project should go into the data folder in your MV project.

If that doesn't help, please take a screenshot of the contents of your MV project's data folder and post it here so we can confirm the files are where they should be.

I read through the entire thread but didn't see anyone ask this particular question. I have a project I will continue mapping in VX/ACE but will convert to MV so I can use some of the built-in functions that VX/ACE doesn't have. I'm wondering how many times the conversion script can be run. I want to make the maps in VX/ACE and then transfer them over to MV as I complete them rather than all at once. What kind of problems would I run into with the conversion program if I did it this way?

@DeviTheHuman: there should be none as long as you don't cross-work.

So if you make a map, convert it and transfer it there should be no problem.

However, if you change something in MV only, and copy files from the (unchanged) Ace later, that will overwrite changes you did in MV.

First off, I just wanted to say thanks for creating a converter. Now onto why I am posting - help! I converted my project over and whenever I attempt to load my project it says "Unable to read file CommonEvents.json"

If I replace the CommonEvents.json with a blank new one, the project loads fine in MV and everything else appears to have transferred successfully. I have twice run the converter plugin on my VX Ace project and I get the same error. A google search for the error didn't bring up much of anything. I used the plugin version from this thread, and I have version 1.2.0 of MV. Let me know if you need anything else to help figure this out. Thank you so much.

Solution:

So, I opened a new Ace project. I copied all 234 Common Events into that project. I converted that project, copied the CommonEvent.json over into the MV project and it worked. So there you have it, incase anyone else has this error.

I'm getting the same problem with my Armors and Weapons files. I was using an affix system, so most of my weapons and armor have a ton of note tags, that's my guess as to what might be causing the issue. I've attached the database files.

View attachment Weapons.rvdata2

View attachment Armors.rvdata2

EDIT: I tried stripping out note tags from everything, and that seemed to get it to work. Dunno what was up there, if it was formatting thing or what.

A number of people have had issues with projects that were converted from VX to Ace, and in all the cases I investigated, it was because the VX -> VX Ace conversion put some weird stuff into the database.  I seem to recall it was always skills that had the issue - this message looks like it's the troop allocated to a map, which in VX were set up differently as areas.

I know how this feels now.

Is it really that "impossible" to help us VX-users out and make a script for our games?

I would like to move on with my VX-game to MV too and it's a really frustration experience right now that I can't. Converting from VX > Ace may work but this has to happen when even XP got his converter.

It's not "impossible" to make a VX-MV converter - nobody ever said that it was.  It just takes a lot of time, and VX has a few serious differences to Ace that it's not just "doing the same thing in a slightly different language".  I was never a VX user so that adds extra time.  And it's time I just don't have at the moment.

XP has a converter because there was an XP scripter around who wanted to take on the project.  Find a VX scripter who wants to take on the project, and you're set :)

Yes, I did the XP to MV conversion script(which has many flaws due to the enormous changes in database between XP and MV). I would have tried VX to MV, but I never used RPG Maker VX, so I know nothing about RGSS2 :(

honestly, it's the layout of the database and map data that's a bigger issue than the language.  There really aren't that many significant differences between the three versions of RGSS.  Maps have areas instead of regions, and there's some conversion needed to put database stuff into features/traits, which is where I came undone when I was attempting it, then had to put it aside for other things.

Did you copy the images over? MV has two battler image folders, and Ace only has one. You may need to copy them into both. And you DO need to copy them - the converter handles the Data folder only.

I'm having the same issues as omgcow1234. I inserted the script into my rpg maker vx ace project then play tested the game which created the folder(mv-data0. i copied everything from that folder and pasted it into the data folder of the new rpg maker mv project i created. once I did that i open the rpg maker mv project and nothing has changed. i dont really have much to convert except some graphics which i've already done. now just gotta figure this issue out.

@DaneReid Are you sure that you opened the correct project and copied the files into the correct folders?

Because "nothing changed" is technically impossible. The files gained from this script replace the files of the MV project, which means even if they don't work, they delete the original database files.
So there has to be a change, even if it is only an error message when something went wrong and the files can't be read anymore - but it is technically impossible for the project to still contain the original data if the files were correctly replaced.

And remember that this script only converts the database, converting the resources is done externally and not handled by this script.

so, for like the entire duration of me working on my game, I've wanted to see how possible it is to make SOME kind of turn based team fighting game and if I can pull off what's in my notes, I think I'll be satisfied.
