Hello! I was hoping to get some feedback for a game I have recently started developing.

Synopsis:

This game takes place in a fictional and yet unnamed city. The game will start you in a waiting room, I am thinking of making it so you can choose 3 starting positions. 1)Accountant waiting room, 2)Mechanics office, or 3)Principles office in a high school. The main objective is to successfully get to see the person you are waiting for. You can accomplish this by either waiting the allotted time (25-45 minutes) or by exploring the city and finding ways to initiate mass panic and widespread destruction. After you have successfully done this there will be no one left in the waiting room! Easy to get in now!

Dialogue is a HUGE aspect of the game world, interacting with people is key, and they will give you quests ranging from unimportant to game world changing. My real goal here is to craft a fun, entertaining, and hilarious experience just for kicks! This is the kind of game you fire up to sit back and have a good time.

Another goal of mine is to craft a game world that is not only huge but interesting. For example, in the city if you are walking by an apartment building and you are struck with the urge to go in and see what it looks like, you can do this! Not only that, but everyone in the buildings will have at least SOME interesting dialogue options. The more you explore, the more likely you are to find ways to clear that waiting room!

Suggestions?

I am planning on making a large game world to explore with lots of interesting characters to meet. I am hoping to get some feedback on this game, what kind of things could I do to make this more interesting? Is it better to design my own sprites or to find someone else who can? What kind of things would you hope to find in this kind of game?

Thanks for your ideas and time!

Kaleb

Gameplay video coming soon...sorry for the delay, I purchased RPG maker MV and currently am devoted to learning Javascript right now.

I love that you are making a play trough of this. Is this your first game? It is kinda an original setting.

This sounds awesome! I would love to play a game like this.

You scared me with the word 'simulator'. A lot of indie (and mainstream, even) game devs are ruining that genre. D=

Good thing I read the description ^-^

Yes it's my first! I am really excited about making it, and thanks I'm hoping to keep people interested by showing them parts of the game I make.

I do feel it's lacking something, so I have a few ideas bouncing around in my head I'm planning on sharing later

I hope you finish this! This is one of those great ideas that could really make it out there in the wilderness. I suggest that you'd first work with the stock material that you have and worry about the custom graphics later. Since this game doesn't revolve around the visual experience - it could but it doesn't - you should first focus on making the interaction between the player and NPC's your very best. Of course this is just my thoughts on the matter. You will make the call what is the most important thing and what to do first.

I just want to say that this is the greatest concept I've seen around here for a while :D maybe it is just because it is so different but what does it matter ;)

Thanks so much for the reply!

So I actually got rpg maker mv recently and have been playing around with it and learning javascript,

it seems to have all the assets I would need to make this game. I plan to continue the game soon, but I also recently showed a friend rpg maker and I have been helping him with his game...it wont be long before I have a new video on youtube with all the new graphics and such!

Thanks for the encouragement again!

by the way, I just checked out your soundcloud profile. I am really blown away by the quality of your scores, out of curiosity where did you get those orchestral samples from?

Thank you so much! Orchestral samples are from Vienna Symphonic Library. The focus on making very dry and authentic representation of the instrument. EQ, compression, stereo placement and width, reverb everything is on the composer/engineer. I really like them. SUPER expensive but worth every cent.

Well you handle them well! I've always loved music composition but mastering a final track is about as easy as deconstructing a nuclear missile to me. I am SERIOUSLY enjoying your music!

Well it is your lucky day then... You don't need to know everything anymore!! Let me introduce an effective 3D (Delegation, a Divine Doctrine) method for all creative purposes! Enterrrr... I-Told-Someone-Else-To-Do-It-For-Me-And-My-Life-Is-So-Easy! Or in short just ITSETDIFMAMLISE! :D just kidding...

Glad you enjoy my music :) Composing music is actually rather easy. It is like collecting multi-purpose pieces of a puzzle from everywhere and mixing them together. Anyone can learn it with some practice but like all things, only those who dedicate their attention to it will master the craft - or at least come close to mastering it.

Hey guys! Just a quick update..I have long been slaving over the generic tilesets awarded to me by my recent aquisition of RPG maker MV...and wanted to share some of the gameworld I'm making with you.

I implore you to join me on a guided tour narrated by Morgan Freeman (Sorry I can't upload the audio files so I just wrote out what he said)

Freeman : Imagine a world, a world stuck in the eternal cheaply carpeted purgatory of the waiting room. Where every man woman and child must pay their dues by enslaving their already dwindling intellect to the strenuous exertion of trying to occupy themselves as they sit, eternally waiting.

Here in this world a hero will arise, one who will step out of the 36 by 24 tiled .png format room, and explore his destiny. This hero is you, and your journey starts here:

(That chicken is not our hero, he is the physical manifestation of your piqued interest....and I will take a moment to say I am somewhat concerned that it manifests itself as a chicken)

Freeman: This great hero, humble as he is, will meander aimlessly about this intellectual wasteland, this barren thoughtless void, and perhaps encounter life in any number of pre designed-locations. Such as this park:

Freeman: Or this upper middle class suburban home:

Freeman: Although I must say this home really isn't well designed. And what kind of suburban street ends like that? Where's the loop thing, how do you say it? It's French...the Celdesac. That's it. Where is the one of those?

So anyways that was Freeman he's pretty cool. And those are the screens..that is the world you as the player will get to venture about with or without malice. Whoever she is.

Alright I'm peacin out thanks for looking!!

Not bad, there is just a lot of empty space? I feel I miss some content in those screens. Loved the chicken though! :D

I like the update. If the writing there is any indication the game should be pretty entertaining.

Space will be filled in when I add the npc's for sure, also it was tough fitting in everything into small screenshots. There is a lot more world out there, when I get to the point to do a video I think it'll look much better

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
