I've had VX Ace for a few years now and I've bought a ton of DLC for it. I haven't made anything complete yet though but I have a lot of ideas. I want to make something I would enjoy playing. Something nostalgic. The RPGs I enjoyed most growing up were Pokemon and Dragon Warrior Monsters. I still play Pokemon to this day and I tried Dragon Quest Monsters Joker and found it sorely dissapointing.

What I would love to do is make my own spiritual successor to DWM. Not a fan game but an original game with it's own story and it's own characters with very similar mechanics in breeding and monster raising and dungeon crawling. (My two favorite parts of DWM were the random dungeon portals and the monster breeding)

So I want to make this game, this is the project I want to spend my time on. Ideally I would like to learn to make my own tilesets and characters and monsters for this game. And perhaps even chiptunes. I want a gameboy retro style. However I was coming here to see if there were any good tutorials for learning to do those sorts of things, I'm not a bad artist at all so I do have some experience. But like I said before I own quite a bit of the DLC on my Steam account. I was thinking the RPG Maker DS and DS+ Tiles and characters and the Tyler Warren first fifty second fifty and third fifty battlers would make good monsters to use in a breeding sim. I was thinking I could try and make my own Charset party members based on those with some practice. It might take less time that making all the graphics for my game myself from scratch but I don't know if it would be as satisfying. Some advice would be appreciated here.

The next question is, How hard is it to learn to script? I've been wanting to do this for some time and I think I'll need it to make this game just the way I want it. If anyone knows any good places I can learn RGSS3 I'd appreciate that too.

Anyway thanks for your time.

The key to scripting and programming is to learn how a computer works through logic sequences. If you can handle that part, then programming is easy to learn - if not, then you'll have a lot of problems with scripting.

I described it in more detail in another topic, please check http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/31354-can-the-scripting-system-be-easier/#entry304792

Another topic that describes the main problem is this one: http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/5108-a-good-article-for-you-budding-scripters/

Thanks Andar. That does help quite a bit. I still need a guide of tutorial to get started with though.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't see the update at the bottom. Thanks again.

That line is my signature, and it wasn't for your questions.

There aren't many tutorials for RGSS, because that is a variant of Ruby and we usually refer people to learn Ruby on those sites on the Internet, and come here only after that for the small differences. However, there is an entire subforum here dedicated to learning Ruby, RGSS# and scripting - please check there for links to tutorials.

trihan has an excellent series for getting you started on scripts.  Even I am beginning to understand a few things.  You can find it here

Well after some searching I found a course online on a site called Codecademy that teaches Ruby. I'm going to try that. I was trying to decide for the longest time what I wanted to do with my free time when I start college this year and now I think I know what it is. I want to take Graphic Art and Design. That should help boost my art skills on the computer and make making tilesets and sprites a bit easier for me. After I finish them I'll start the course I want to take for my career. Phlebotomy. :) I'm blessed right now with quite a bit of free time to fill and I want to fill it with things that will fuel my passions. I want to learn things that will not only help me earn a living but also help me in my game creation hobby. What other courses might be good to do for game development? As far as I now none of the colleges here offer a game development course otherwise I'd take that too.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
