Want to walk on a tile and a character walk up behind me

Hi, I'm new to RPG Maker VX Ace, I have a situation where I want to walk towards something, then suddenly a character walks up behind me and talks to me, and then I will add him/her to my party. 

I was wondering how I can start the event from 1 tile, but have character come out of nowhere from behind, like say in Pokemon when you get to a point and your rival suddenly just walks up and fights. So how do I start the event? And is there anyway to make the character transparant?

That's basic eventing - you need an event on player touch that will trigger the event with the NPC picture walking up from behind you.

I suggest playing the sample game Crysalis and doing the official tutorials to learn more about eventing before continuing to make your game.

Hi, thanks for your reply, I have set it up so the variable changes and the NPC walks up behind me and on player touch she talks to me and joins the party, however for some reason whenever I put Set Move Route to either turn 180 degree's or move down, it never works, which means to talk to her, the player then has to move down, which is stupid. 

Any idea's why this is happening? Thanks! (sorry for the noob question)

There are so many options on how to make a move route (for example, in event content area or in autonomous movement area, or wether you wait for completion or allow parallel process or what you control) that you better post a screenshot of the event pages you've done - then we can tell you how to change them to work.

Right so here it is, using a variable to activate the other event, a simple line, then my character should rotate and the other event kicks in, the other event works fine though. Thanks.

wrong focus in the moveroute: the command turns the event (which hasn't even a sprite to show the turn), but it needs to turn the player instead.

In the top left area of the move route command, switch from "this event" to "Player"

Oh wow I knew it would be something stupid! Always the way you end up looking through everything else and trying 100 different things to get it working, thank you very much for your help! =D

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
