The forum rules are on the Help tab at the top of the page. Almost every forum also has its own pinned rules for what should be posted there, and what needs to be provided in the threads (content, tags, screenshots, etc).
If you take the time to look through them before you post, and follow what they say, you should be okay.
If you post in the wrong place, the mods will move the thread and let you know it was in the wrong place. A few times is acceptable, and even expected. If you get moderated, figure out why and learn from it. I've seen people who post in absolutely the wrong place, time after time after time. It's as if they have a thought and hit the nearest "new post" button - not even caring to look what area they're posting in. There is a world of difference between what happens when you get moderated and learn from it, and when you get moderated and completely ignore it (or complain about it, which should be done via a PM to a forum administrator, not by making posts or status updates).
This is a big forum, and requires a lot of effort to keep running smoothly. All the moderators are volunteers, who spend a heap of time helping others here, in addition to their own projects, work or school, family, and other real-life activities. Most of the time they're very patient, but some people push their limits. They don't moderate you without a reason, so if you feel it's happening too much, the first thing you should do is check the rules I mentioned at the start of this post and see if breaking them has become a bit of a habit. They're really not that hard to follow.
