Disclaimer for Shaz and Sharm: I am not asking for a script. I remember a time or two when I never mentioned a script, and I was moved there anyway. I'd rather not use a script for this if i can get away with it, because i'm almost positive this is possible with switches and a common event

Request (for everyone): I'm looking for a way to make an item that let's the player warp back to places they've been when on the world map (and only on the world map). I already have an idea by setting an event that automaticly triggers when the player first that turns on a switch. then, if the switch is on, it would add a selection on the common event that let's you select a cluster of places. then, in that cluster of places, you can select a specific place to go.

I have a vauge idea of how to do that with the common event with conditinol branches, but i don't know how to get it to exclude some clusters of places and places you haven't been yet. any idea's that would at least point me in the right direction would be nice

Yes, that can be done with events - you just have to store the current and target coordinates into variables and use those variables on the transfer command.

And we moderators know that not all requests are intended to ask for scripts - but when we know that a script is the only possible solution, then that topic has to be moved to script request even if the OP didn't know that there is no alternative to using a script.

I didn't know you needed current coordnaites...

also how do you make it so that the choices the player hasn't been to yet don't show up when the player uses the item

Also, I posted that because I feel that some moderaters get iritated when the original poster doesn't know there's no alternatives then using scripts, and it makes me just not want to post at all

Even without a script, what you are asking for can be done with pure eventing.

The problem is, you will have to create a very, very long list of conditional branches to achieve what you are describing. How long depends on how many places you can transfer to.

Since items cannot be added to the choices window dynamically with the default scripts, you will have to create conditional branches for every possible scenario of which place can appear or not.

This will result in a massive waste of switches, since you will need to those activate the branches, and you will need to make script calls for multiple switches.

There are two ways I know of to deal with this:

1) Make is so that places you can warp to will appear in a linear fashion. You will not need to create as many switches and conditional branches.

2) Use a script to make your life easier if you still intend to go through with this style of teleportation.

There could be another way, but I am not too sure.

As a side note, I do not believe the moderators get irritated when they move your topics. There is no reason for you to stop posting if you want to ask for opinions or help. ^^

I've moved this thread to VX Ace Support. Please be sure to post your threads in the correct forum next time. Thank you.

I will move a thread to Script Requests/Support if I know the only/best way to fill your request is a script, or if you are already using a script that's related, or if the majority of people offer scripts and the conversation gets steered along those lines.

Please assume that we moderators know what we're doing and know where threads belong (you say you know where things should go, but you still managed to post this request in General Discussion instead of Ace Support ...) If you have an issue with threads being moved in the past, go ahead and point them out, and I will explain why they belong where they were moved to.

I never said i knew where it goes. I was telling you guys not to move this into script requests, because it's not a script and that there was a time or two when I was moved there when I never mentioned a script

And Andar and Susan, thank you for your replies, they were helpful

well, let's just assume the mods know what they're doing. We don't go moving things to the wrong places just for the fun of it, and if they were moved into Scripts, it was for a reason ;)

And looking back to those threads, it seems clear that you constantly post in the wrong place (so I'm not sure why you'd worry if we move it or not, as you appear to not care where it is).

If you need help with something you're doing in Ace and it involves scripts, it goes to RGSSx Script Support. If you don't already have a script but it's very complicated or is changing the way menus behave or changing the way other things behave by default, chances are it's going to require a script, so it goes to RGSS3 Script Requests. If it's only something to do with the database or mapping or something that can just be done with events, it goes to VX Ace Support. If you need help doing something in your game, it DEFINITELY does not belong in General Discussion, which is where you seem to post most of your stuff.

And since you've been told in those other threads that you ARE posting in the wrong place way too often, and I've now given you an idea of where things go (which is more than we do for most people), you should take this as a strong suggestion to be more careful about where you post now. We tend to not be so forgiving when we have to tell the same person the same thing over and over and over.

You need the current coordinates if you want to go back there (if your item should work like most town portal functons) - if you don't need the return function, then you don't need current coordinates.

Without scripts, you would need to at the bare minimum create choice selections for every possible combination of options.

After some debate of whether or not to go through with this idea, I think I'm going to go through with it, yet be very conservative with them. meaning the player would still have too do some walking, but it wouldn't be as bad as walking all that way....
