STALE OLD WATER TILES!? WHAAAAAAAT?!

I have been growing very tired of the standard VX ocean autotiles for a while now... it kills anything that you are trying to do visually in an instant.

As you can see above, even with the help of great pieces, the water is just so... fake. so With the inspiration of seeing Indrah make a set, I decided to give it a go.

Only I decided to convert the format of the RPG Maker XP ocean water and severely recolor it. And I got a finished product that looks like this:

This picture has pieces from Hanzo Kimura and from Celianna, as well as my ocean autotiles, credit for the other parts goes to them.
THE TILES

The autotiles have full motion, and have the textured look of the XP tiles with a coloring that fits fairly well into the VX RTP.

So without further ado, so anyone can use these and look at them for themselves, here are the autotiles.

Credits: Enterbrain, myself, Celianna for the sand tiles, and Indrah for the inspiration.

THE SPRITES

I've had the need to create wading sprites for one of my VX games, so I began working on those recently and have created the following two sprites. I'm looking to create more in the future, obviously, and will consider taking requests if provided with a sprite to alter. Recommended for use in water that is not translucent, otherwise it will look funny. There are ripples for motion in the water as well... So here is the first wave of released sprites:

These are edits of Enterbrain's RTP sprites. And then I created these WaterSprites from them.

Nice! They look wonderful! Certainly a lot better than the default version!

Thank you for sharing the lovely autotile!

Must use realistic water! It's really nice, and I love mixing cartoony tiles with realistic ones,

@Kaiserkami: then, this seems like a good match for ya! The color gives it the cartoony appeal while the detail gives it the realistic look. I hope to see some new VX demos popping up with these in it! (I know my demo can improve with this addition...)

These are quite refreshing. I like the lighter tone on the sand. Good work :)

@Shablo5: Yep! I editted the sand around the autotiles to fit PERFECTLY with Celianna's awesome sand tiles... because that's what I use in my tilesets. And thanks for the feedback!

Oh I'm impressed, now I must figure out how you made those sprites. Or if I'm lucky you'll explain it ;D

Since you are using my sand tiles as a backdrop for that water autotile, please add my name for credit :)

well, if you have photoshop you can use my sprites as a template... I would make two layers with the 'template' on it... erase JUST the character image from one and label it 'ripples', now use the other one with the character portion still visible to find out how much of the sprite you want made to erase. I usually use an eraser tool, but with maybe a 20% opacity. and I just keep erasing until it looks good. when you save the file just make sure the ripples and your character are the only visible layers. Just make sure you save the psd file too, it will help immensly if you decide you want to alter or make more at a later date

TIP: also, it helps to have a single color background (blue would be best) to flip on and off to check the results while you are working. The closest this color is to the water tiles in question, the more it'll help in the long run.

@ Everyone: I'll be willing to make a few of these water sprites for people who don't want to go through the effort of making their own. Although, I will accept very limited amounts of requests and might not accept every request on this thread. That being said, I will also help clarify any 'do-it-yourself' questions based off of my instructions here.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
