Weapon Sprites and Cast Animations

So, I figured out how to use Yanfly's action sequence plugin to allow me to play an attack animation when using a specific skill. With the "Motion type: target" line I can have him swing or thrust or lay down and die when he uses a skill. Of course, when the character does an attack animation it displays their currently equipped weapon. I'd like it to show a different weapon sprite.

For example, if my character has a sword equipped (and shows the normal sword slash attack animation when attacking, that's fine) and uses a skill specified to display "Motion Missile: user", he will preform the missile attack cast animation with a sword in his hand. I'd like him to have a gun or crossbow sprite for that cast animation.

So, do I have to create an entirely custom cast animation to do that, or is there another way? If I do have to have to make a custom cast animation or edit weapon sprite sheets or what not, how do I go about doing that? Cast animations don't seem to be as easy to mess around with as effect animations. And I really don't know how to manipulate weapon appearances.

Have a look at Yanfly's Weapon Animation plugin. Unfortunately, the notetags to change the weapon image don't work on skills, but you can create a state that changes the weapon image and add that state during an Action Sequence. See this thread for details:

Oh! I didn't notice someone had asked much the same question. Thanks for your creative solution, I wouldn't have thought of using a state. It seems to work.

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? No-one c
