My main party member sprites aren't showing on the map when I test the game, but can still move around and trigger events, whose sprite (such as wandering mobs) DO move around and show just fine. The sprites themselves show in other test games, so it isn't a problem with the images, but I cannot find a place where set to not show the sprites.

Most probably you have activated player transparency, either by event command or on the database, system tab, top right

If Andar's suggestion doesn't work, here are a few other things to consider:

Do you have starting party members in your System tab?

In the Actor tab, do those members all have sprites?

@Shaz, I had no idea you could move around with an empty party!

@UberWookie

here are some pics of the database in case you don't know how to check it.

start transparent.png

If you do NOT have actors here, you can choose edit and repopulate. =].

delete actors.png

Ah thank you, it was party transparency. I do not have ANY idea how that got turned on unless there is a hotkey for it somewhere I accidentally pressed. Solved! Thanks again so much.

I don't know if you CAN move around with an empty party. I would expect the "all dead" check to come in, with an immediate game over. But I haven't tested it.

In theory it should work. While Game_Unit says the following:

def all_dead?    alive_members.empty?end def alive_members    members.select {|member| member.alive? }endwhich does return true if the party is empty, Game_Party says:

def all_dead?    super && ($game_party.in_battle || members.size > 0)endeffectively creating a backdoor for 0 member parties.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
