    Introduction

Weekly Art Challenge is a recurring event for the Art, Literature and Music forum wherein there is a new challenge for artists every week. The goal of the event is to encourage art and going outside the box by imposing interesting challenges and limitations. After a week, a poll will be up for everyone to vote to select the best entry. The winner with the most votes will receive a pretty little badge for bragging rights.

Also, please be sure to check out the previous challenge's thread.

    Rules

    • A new challenge/theme will be posted up in a new thread every week.
    • Participants are to follow the rules imposed by the challenge/theme. Any questions may be asked. However, I reserve the right to disqualify any entries that I feel do not meet the criterion.
    • A challenge lasts for approximately a week. Deadline for all Weekly Challenges is strictly at 12:00AM, GMT +0, on Monday.
    • On the week after, a poll will be up in the same thread. Only one entry will win. In the case where there are more than one winning entry with equal votes, all winning entries will be rewarded.
    • Poll for voting will be available from the submission deadline to Saturday, when the winner will be announced.
    • The winner gets to call the theme/challenge for the following week. If the winner does not wish to do so, then I will come up with one.
    • All forms of art are welcome.
    • Entries must be done completely from scratch by their respective participants. This means no pre-existing stock materials are allowed, regardless of the degree to which they have been altered. Whoever is caught intentionally violating this rule will be subject to the punishment stated in our Forum Rules regarding Credit Theft.
    • No need to register. Just start working on your entry right away if you've decided to participate.
    • Post your entries in this thread. WIPs are encouraged, but please explicitly specify your final submission.
    • There is absolutely no measurements coming from us on the completion of a piece. Whether a piece is complete for final submission or not, is entirely your own call. So don't be discouraged if you think you can only afford to doodle a couple lines. Anything is fine.

    This week's Challenge

A demonstration of an unconventional magic typically not seen in RPGs.

    • Deadline: 12:00AM (GMT +0) on Monday, March 3rd, 2014.
    • Poll for voting will be available from the submission deadline to Saturday, March 8th, 2014.
    • Any questions may be asked here.
    • All forms of art are welcome.
    • Post your entries in this thread. WIPs are encouraged, but please explicitly specify your final submission.

And that is it. Have fun!

Ohhh this sounds challenging! Some ideas are already brewing in my head :> It'll be really neat to see what other people come up with as well.

I have no idea what that means.

Could anyone give an example or something?

Only thing I can come up with is someone taking something out of a hat.

I'm sure you've played RPGs before, or else I don't think you'd be here right now to begin with. Typically in RPGs, there is magic. So the theme is an illustration of some sort of magic that has not been seen very often in RPGs before.

Ah, so it doesn't necessarily have to be "in-battle". It can also be from menu?

Sorry, my fault for picking a confusing theme I guess.

In my mind Unconventional Magic for RPGs is anything from Voodoo to Witchcraft [there are tons of culturally specific Witch and Spellcrafts] or as you said, magic tricks like stage magic, rabbits in hats, card tricks etc. Or even a brand new type of magic of your own design that's never been seen before. Basically anything that's not the typical RPG style "Cure" or "Thunder".

At least, that's what I had in mind, but as always, there's probably many more interpretations than that!

Most spells are attack spells used in battles.

But healing spells can be used outside of battles, so can teleport to city, reveal hidden chests and so on.

You are tasked to draw a spell in action. A different kind of spell than what normally appears in most games. Or something that indicates that kind of spell. It's not a hard prompt to figure out, dude.

Think of a cool magic, draw the cool magic.

As this will take some time, I'll just say what I'm drawing.  I'm going to illustrate a Mechro Mage vs Blood Mage fight

Curses. Can't compose anything for this week if the challenge is an illustration! XD Good luck to all participants, nevertheless!!

Hmmm you could try thinking of an unorthodox type of magic and making a theme in the same sort of 'feeling' as it. I dunno xD Like witchcraft or voodoo. hmm
I hope a theme comes up that you can work with again. It was fun having a music submission last time!

@Clydous: you totally should try with whatever medium you excel at :p music, literature, etc. Anything is fine if you think you can pertain to the theme to a degree.

I have so many bad ideas for this one.

Derp magic to make your face go all derp.

Sock magic to turn people into giant socks.

Miracle Tear magic that makes you cry the cure for cancer/bring the dead to life/gives you a winning lottery ticket.

Deodorant magic to make sure you smell fresh as a daisy every day.

Alcohol magic that allows you to be drunk/sober any time you want to.

Procrastinate magic, which increases/decreases your level of productivity.

GUYS THESE NEED TO BE REAL SPELLS ESPECIALLY THE LAST THREE.

Dang. Now I HAVE to enter....Why do I do this to myself?

@Makio & Alex: Butbutbutbut...it says an illustration. I mean...I can certainly still try to write something or score something quickly, but how could it count as a valid entry when the week's theme is an illustration...? Curse this mild OCD...!! D:

Well I'm the operator here and I said you can. I'll just change the word to 'demonstration' if that's what's bothering you.

Only block colours atm. Gonna try and find time to shade later today, if not, tomorrow. I originally started off sketching voodoo priestesses, hoping to go for a New Orleans Creole Voodoo witch vibe. But then I sketched a thumbnail of this and it became a bit more personal and a little cathartic.

This is a young, chibi, interpretation of the most unconventional woman I ever knew, my Grandmother.

She's reading the guts of a dead crow in order to tell the future. As one does, obviously. Cameo from my cat, Belmont in the corner there.
