My piece is coming along fine. I'm taking my time though. Moving slowly but making progress. Still fleshing it all out. But it's looking good. I'm happy about that. It is more fun than I thought. I am trying to stay true to this particular myth's legend. Creative or not. My choice however gives me lots of room to make things though.
This one is based off of the Greek myth of Adonis. It was difficult digging up much info on him. His myth is so open to interpretation. One thing does remain constant though, he dies but is resurrected. Some say he is resurrected as the spirit of male beauty youth and strength. Others say he represents the god of vegetation.
The boar is what kills Adonis in the myth.
Lighting and shading is always the toughest part. Damn.
I decided to do something cute this time, with a touch of humor.
I struggled with the wings, they looked great on paper, but on the computer they were hard! I am not native to computer drawing... but I am improving... or at least I think so.
Another thing to note, this drawing contains historical context, Ahtenas slight smile is based off of the Archaic style of the Greeks, and crowning Nike with a wreath is something she would do as a reward for victory.
What you're looking at is the Goddess of Victory Athena, drawn in a simple chib style. She is crowning the shoe company Nike victorious.
Don't get it? Nike shoe company chose their name to promise victory when you wear their shoes, under the power of Athena.
I'm very happy with how this turned out despite having spent almost no time on it. I knew I wasn't going to get a chance to properly color it, so I took to using the same orange and black that Greek vases used and then put in some noised overlay to give it some texture and reset the hue a bit deeper. This is definitely a style I will try to replicate again to try in a more refined setting.
