Introduction
Weekly Art Challenge is a recurring event for the Art, Literature and Music forum wherein there is a new challenge for artists every week. The goal of the event is to encourage art and going outside the box by imposing interesting challenges and limitations. After a week, a poll will be up for everyone to vote to select the best entry. The winner with the most votes will receive a pretty little badge for bragging rights.

Also, please be sure to check out the previous challenge's thread.

 Rules

  • A new challenge/theme will be posted up in a new thread every week.
  • Participants are to follow the rules imposed by the challenge/theme. Any questions may be asked. However, I reserve the right to disqualify any entries that I feel do not meet the criterion.
  • A challenge lasts for approximately a week. Deadline for all Weekly Challenges is strictly at 12:00AM, GMT +0, on Monday.
  • Multiple entries are allowed, and each will be voted separately. The final score will be the total amount of votes all of the entries get.
  • On the week after, a poll will be up in the same thread. Only one participant will win. In the case where there are more than one participant with equal votes, all winners will be rewarded.
  • Poll for voting will be available from the submission deadline to Saturday, when the winner will be announced.
  • The winner gets to call the theme/challenge for the following week. If the winner does not wish to do so, then I will come up with one.
  • All forms of art are welcome.
  • No need to register. Just start working on your entry right away if you've decided to participate.
  • Post your entries in this thread. WIPs are encouraged, but please explicitly specify your final submission.
  • There is absolutely no measurements coming from us on the completion of a piece. Whether a piece is complete for final submission or not, is entirely your own call. So don't be discouraged if you think you can only afford to doodle a couple lines. Anything is fine.
  • Entries must be done completely from scratch by their respective participants. This means no pre-existing stock materials are allowed, regardless of the degree to which they have been altered. Whoever is caught intentionally violating this rule will be subject to the punishment stated in our Forum Rules regarding Credit Theft.
  • Entries must be done within the week after the challenge has been issued. No previously done work is allowed. Entries violating this rule may be automatically disqualified without prior notice.

This week's Challenge

Historically inspired.

  • Deadline: 12:00AM (GMT +0) on Monday, July 21st, 2014.
  • Poll for voting will be available from the submission deadline to Sunday, July 27th, 2014.
  • Any questions may be asked here.
  • All forms of art are welcome.
  • Post your entries in this thread. WIPs are encouraged, but please explicitly specify your final submission.

And that is it. Have fun!

Ok, this took me a while (ages and ages... Ii feel tired now)

Hunter.

How does he fit in with my challenge party? Well, I'll need to add in the child witch Magdalena for that to make sense. But hey, Neanderthal Man! I feel epic!

Thanks KingDanner :D I'm really happy with how it's coming along too. It's fun to do something historically inspired... not something I tend to do that often.

Latest WIP. I'm off to get some sleep I think...

Called it. I knew Vexed would do something Victorian. :D

I love how your characters are always tough, even when they wear pretty dresses.

The Romantic era of music coincided with much of the Victorian era of history.

The Romantic Era was highly expressive and broke the known conventions and formulas of music coming out of the Classical and Baroque eras. It's strange to think of these composers as 'edgy' in their day, but they were! Music during this time gave national identity to many of the Germanic countries it was dominant in as well gave musical expression to concepts such as nature, the supernatural, and fantasy.

The song I have composed is inspired by some of musical concepts of the Romantic era and invokes the imagery of eccentric wealthy people. I imagine the social elite of the Victorian era gathering in a haunted mansion, well dressed, sipping tea, and acting as if every thing is normal.

Ok, finished at last.

Hunter and Magdalena

Magdalena, a young witch, cast a spell in an old book she found in her fathers museum and it brought Hunter, a wax model in the Neanderthal display to life. Since then the two have been completely insepearable.

Sorry, but the two of them belong together and I couldn't draw one without the other... (EDIT) sorry, had to add her hat...

Thanks guys :)

@Ms Littlefish- Love that track! It gives me Rogue Galaxy vibes - or any of the PS2 era Level 5 games actually, they all had that lovely, European, baroque influenced romantic feel to them that I always found utterly charming and your piece is charming by the bucketful! I love the playful spookiness of it. :D

And thank you! In my own little, limited world there's no such thing as a "meek" woman - there are merely women who have not yet learned how to kick the living crap out of everything. Though they're few and far between... And I'm a firm believer that just because you're in a pretty dress that doesn't mean you shouldn't get your hands dirty~

@Paladin-Cleric- They look really sweet together :3 Love the back story too.

Anyone here managed to never burn out on programming? My current limit is 3 months(6-8 hours per day, 7 days per week, 50 hour programming week on average), and then I just have to take a break, sometimes lasting few days(with at most 2 hours on programming per day). I've been always like this so far, so I admire those who can always be so passionate on programming :)

Automatic level scaling without an option to turn it off can be a very bad choice for a game. The worst I've ever seen was in Nightmare of Druaga, where if a power outage made your system turn off, the game detects it as an attempted cheat and overwrites your save while taking away your best gear, leaving you unable to progress at the late stages of the game, and unable to recover.
Problem with sequels: Heroes getting rid of all their items and forgets all of their skills within the span of a year without explanation. :kaomad3:
I can see the end of my prologue. Perfect time to decide to pull everything over into MZ, right? Right?!
