I don't have a program that exports .ogg movie files. It's rather disappointing to be so limited with this. I've never heard of .ogg till Rpg Maker. (Is there a specific reason for choosing this type of file?)

What do you guys recommend? I don't really wan to hunt for online movie converters. (My computer went through a virus earlier this year so I'm very reluctant to just up and download stuff unless for good reason)

I prefer VLC for movie files. I don't know if it'll help you in your current situation. I believe it is free, too.

Echo had a video about it a bit ago, could check that out for more info:

I dont think the OP is asking about a video player.  VLC is an outstanding video player, but I think he was asking why certain file types are set to .ogg and I'll explain as best as I can.  The thing about .ogg files, if I recall correctly, is that they can be "streamed" off of the hard drive.  When you play an .mp3, RPG maker has to load the entire file, and that can cause a bit of a delay and desync depending on how fast the clients computer can read the file.  With .ogg, the whole file doesnt need to be loaded and can simply start streaming, so any sort of lag should be avoided.  In this situation, using .ogg files is typically the best option because there is going to be a big difference between a developers computer and the clients computer.

I was asking about both, actually. I don't have a means to turn any of my files into .ogg for movies.

I do have a few more questions. What are the sizes required to display a movie? (Width x Height) I would like it to cover the screen when playing.

Same for pictures. How big do pictures on the screen need to be to cover the screen?

The formats for movies depend on the maker you're using, it's only OGV for Ace - MV needs different formats depending on the device it will deploy to.

The help file always contain the specifications for each maker.

There are a number of free video conversion programs, just make sure that you download them from the big sites and not from unknown reposts.

The video format should be the same as the screen size of the game or lower as no maker can increase the screen size for videos - in the case of Ace that is usually 544x416 pixels, some projects increase it to 640x480 (maximum of Ace screen size)

I'm using MV, not Vx Ace. Would 544x416 still be the correct size? I would prefer the movie file to be played for computers/desktops. What is the size of the screen that displays the Rpg Maker Test run/or running Rpg Maker Mv in general?

Also, the help file did not show for me the specifications. Where exactly does it list the types required? I tried the "Audio & Video" section but that did not help me.

And since I might not be doing movies now, what is the maximum size I can display an image to fill the screen?

for MV, you can't use OGV - you'll need either webm or MP4/H.264 - go to help, contents, scroll down to documentation, asset standards and then movie assets.

The default screen size for MV is 816x624, but there is no fixed maximum for MV so it depends on the screen size you set your project to (there is a plugin that allows you to change screen size)

Is mpeg.4/H.264 the same thing by any chance? My Windows movie maker has the option as an export. However, when I move it to the movie file the game will not play

 it during testing.

I've never seen a video play in Mv or Vx Ace but my previous experience IIRC in Rpg Maker 2003, is that the video covered the screen. I've been reading other comments that the player can still move and I'm wondering now that when a video plays that it does not necessarily cover the whole screen. Is this what you mean by "fixed maximum"?

No, MP4 or mpeg4 is the container format, h.264 is the codec used - you can create MP4 videos with different codecs or use other videoformats with an h.264 codec.

And it won't display on a windows computer during testing because it is the format for other devices, for windows you'll need .webm

(as the help file say you'll need both formats on MV for deployment)

Thank you. Will the  816x624 movie cover the game's screen though?

You can find the formatting for different devices in the help documentation.  In general, your movie should be the same size as your project for the ratios if you're doing for Win/Mac (i.e. 640x480 or whatever).  If you're publishing for iOS, you want to format for the iPhone 6/S (1920x1080), since that's the standard phone size for apple products.  The iPad is capable of doing 2048x1536, but it will upscale from the iPhone 5/6 size if that's what you have.  If you want to do for the 5s (which is still the intro phone for them), you can do 1136x640.  Most android phones released within the last 2 years will mirror the 1920x1080.  However, they will also upscale the 1136x640 as well if need be.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
