@adiktuzmiko -- You should see a couple of my other maps. I think I'm having autotile issues in those. The artifacts you've noticed are another matter. Basically the tutorial called for the use of a set of Mack's forest tiles. The link that the tutorial pointed to, however, didn't work. It took me several tries to track down a usable tile sheet, and by usable I mean one that I could pull into the RM program and practice mapping with. I haven't tried to edit them manually as I'm still learning to use the basic maker, but I would like to get a copy of the tileset that actually works. That definitely isn't going to fly for an end product.

Short version: yeah, looks like I may have picked up a bad copy of the tiles. Guessing I either need a new one or else I need to figure out what went wrong when I imported the tiles. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm working in VX Ace, in case it matters.

I got Mack's tiles from a thread in this forums...

as for the autotiles, you should use tiles that blend... a lot of them doesn't so it might some time finding a tile that blends well, while doing what you want... and anyway, having those grasses directly beside a sand tile isn't good... and it isn't normal, which is probably why, they were never meant to blend anyways...

I've not done much since it's been the holidays, so I'm still just working on the basics of mapping. Here are some of my first attempts at making different kinds of maps. They're admittedy simple-looking and only use the default content that came with RPG Maker VX Ace. That cave was hard to do with all the shift clicking.

After some corrections:

As an added bonus, I now have a tiny bit of experience with direct tile edits. Yay!  I think the reason I originally went with the sand had something to do with not liking how the regular dirt looked, I can only assume I just wasn't using the autotiles right when I first drew the map.

Thanks again!   :D

I'm currently doing formulas to use as different weapon attack skills. It's really fun, and makes for some weird choices you have to make depending on

what stats the enemy has.

Ex: The formula for a katana is a.atk*2+a.agi*2-b.def*2 while a dagger is (a.agi*3+a.atk/2)-(b.def*3+rand(b.luk))

Out of the two types of bandits you encounter in the beginning of the game Katanas do more damage to the armored ones

since defense isn't a huge factor. Daggers do more damage to the less armored ones, since light armor decreases luck they

have more vulnerability to dagger strikes.

Practising clean line-art drawing with my mouse ( a bit tough going, since I'm a leftie, and using my right hand to do all this ) and working on a couple of character screens for my FE game. If the player leaves the title screen idling, it will cycle through the average stats of all the classes.

Getting the skintone right is... ><.

I am so biased towards this class...

I can see why you prefer that class, even without reading the descriptions on the other ones, that one seems a little OP.

The lineart looks really good but his right arm looks a lot larger than his left, which seems a bit off since it seems that the left arm is further in the foreground. I do really like the assymmetry of the outfit though!

@Luchi

Like the portrait.  The thing that struck me was that the palm/back of the hand section of the hand seems far too small for the size of the arm and fingers.

Currently wrapping up recording voice overs for my first project.  I really think you guys will like what's been done.  If you haven't yet, a preview for the narration is on my youtube channel.  http://www.youtube.com/ultimacj

Voice over progress:  Narration:  Done

Lightin: Done!

Mayor Bolbus: In Progress

Felorn, The Dwarf:  In Progress

Old Man Sage:  In Progress

The Dark Mistress:  In Progress (I am happy to report I have a female voice over who will be doing this characters voice.  -- I was really afraid I wouldn't have a voice over for her.  The person who is doing the narration and characters is one person only, he's very talented.  Unfortunately, he can't do a female and it was hard to find someone (don't know many females myself - and where I live [girl gamers what are those just a myth! is VERY uncommon]) who could play a derpy villianess).  It would have looked 'odd' having voice overs for the main characters but not the evil villain.)

I have a few more tweaks after this and then I will be working on map refinements.  This is my first project so I don't expect to please everyone with tilesets since I've various opinions about them (good and bad!).  As is, I'm ready to be done with this project.  I'm already over the 350 hour mark (according to Steam) working on this.

I hope you will all enjoy it when I finish it.  It's been a real challenge and enjoyment and I would love to hear what people think about it -- good and bad.

I know I've just joined but might as well pitch in,

I'm still plotting for my latest project: The Runemaster's Occult

So far I (finally) found a font that displays the old Nordic runes. My next step is to get some lore-friendly, Nordic styled tilesets that would go well with mack sprites. (If anyone has any *hopefully free for commercial use* ideas on tiles, please let me know!) And I am currently making tiles for runic hieroglyphs.

I've been working on concept art for Mustang Mania and working on some ideas to gain experience/levels as opposed to battle encounters. It's been an interesting few days :distrust:

Spent the day doing my share of the work to release Undefeated.  It's a collaboration with Aldorlea Games, and fortunately that means that Indinera did all the necessary to get up on the website, sort out BMT etc. etc. etc.  I was playtesting the demo to make sure all was well.

And finally it's out!  I can hardly believe it.

Thank you.

It does mean that I shall now have to work at getting back into the swing with my current project which - obviously - I've been neglecting over the last few days.  And I expect that there will be queries etc. from players (hopefully no bug reports - Indinera is brilliant at tracking these down pre-release, but I suppose something will have got through the net anyway) so my time will be divided for a bit.

Experimenting with "cinematic" battle scenes for my game. While it won't feature combat as gameplay, you will witness some combat, most depending on choices you make. The idea is to make such "cinematic" scenes exciting but brief – gameplay should resume quickly. It's a difficult balancing act, that.

@Luchi Pretty! The tree looks like it could be a little wider in the leafy bit though...

@Luchi That sunsetty mountain water picture is really pretty~! I love the colours and the little birds are a wonderful touch!

I think your tree could use either some fluffing up or a thinner trunk. Trees grow up and out, so with a trunk that thick the branches that come off of it are going to be much wider.

Right now, your tree seems kinda stunted

When tree branches quite often grow in a very flared out manner

Alternatively, you could make the trunk thinner

And come to a nice balance as well.

I suggest looking at references for what a tree looks like without the leaves and then that will give you a good base idea on how to handle it with the leaves. Just like when drawing other living creatures, having a better understanding of the 'skeleton' will allow you to have an easier time drawing it convincingly with all the dressings. :>

The leaves are really cute though! I like the colours you picked.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
