@B.Ultimus.

Nice.  But I was left wondering why the fence stops so far from the cliff edge.  With a gap like that, fencing becomes redundant.
The screenshot is misleading for that.  It's actually an open gate to more graves, instead of leading to the edge of a cliff.

I dunno, sometimes I think Kai could use a backhand slap from or two from Gerda.

I like the art style!  Everything is so vector-y :D

I am working on my first game! I am also trying very hard not to bombard the support area of the forums with questions that have probably already been answered.

Nice!

Just make sure to make a valid effort to use that search bar.  Otherwise, if you are having trouble, and more importantly, having trouble finding the answers, ask away!

@B.Ultimus: Thanks so much! It's pretty cool to hear my line art is smooth enough to resemble vector stuff heh

Also, darkening that floor tile really helped your map a lot! It gives the map some needed depth that it was lacking before hand. Also, I just like the colours you went with overall. They're very earthy and have a nice natural feel to them.

Darkened the tiles for the floor of the crypt, and started mapping the area out.  After taking a couple day haitus for homework and coming back to it...not half bad.
WOW I REALLY LIKE THIS

I have found that Google really is your best friend for those of us just starting out. And those with some experience. And those who "know everything". So pretty much for everyone.  BD   If you don't get the results you wanted then try re-wording it, or simplifying the search.

Also, look up tutorials if you want to do ANYTHING.

They help a ton and most are well-written enough for us chimps with typewriters to figure out XD

Finally, if you can't figure out how to do something through events/common events alone, look up some scripts. There's plenty to choose from, and most (if not all) that are out there are free to use on non-commercial games, and a few are even completely free. Just be sure to credit their authors or people might get itchy on you.

Between those two things, I've only had to ask a few questions so far and am pretty happy about that ^-^

It's worked out better than I've expected. At least in searching for pre-made scripts.

Not sure about anything else script-related.

EDIT: I'd really like to have or find a list of the calls and hard-coded variables that the game uses if I ever started doing RM scripts. However, I'm afraid that scripting is so time-consuming it'd be better to look for/request specific scripts than to teach myself Ruby's coding rules and lose focus upon the game itself  :dizzy:

As well, from what I've seen, there's more dedicated script-monkeys out there than multitaskers that do their own anyhow, and I can guess why.

OT: Trying to finish up the first battle tutorial tonite. First time doing this much eventing in one event (only had program for 2 weeks, whoo).

Conditional loops, variables, and labels - oh my!

--| I thought about doing it OOC but really wanted to keep most of it in-character, so went with that, in a sense - the excuse is that one of the starter MC's (the group healer, go figure) has had some training, but hasn't been in a real fight before, so she needs a few "refreshers" on how things work

--| It needs to be concise, but allow for backtracking if the player is a dunce and doesn't "get" something by the end

--| As a little (personal) bonus, I also want the character(s) "yelling" at the player if they're acting like a dunce XD

--| However, it should be skippable, in case the player just wants to get the first fight over with

Finished up some sprites, still working on all the leafy stuff for Black Tempest and a prototype screen.

No anti-aliasing on any of these resources. Just pixel-based stuff. Except for the overlay in the screenshot.

I like how the sprites are all different heights now.

It's a long and winding road for those who take the completely custom route.

I like your sprites, except Laine appears to have no feet, just straight legs, so sideways view is a bit disconcerting.

@Luchi : Reminds me of Genesis RPGs... I like the style!  Did you make this yourself?

Been working on the logo for my game. Need your thoughts on this one, I'll be using this on the title screen, but more importantly, what I'll have on my facebook page for the game.

@B.Ultimus: This is probably largely personal preference, but I'm not a huge fan of the bevel and emboss look. Especially in logos, I find that flat colours or gradients can often be a bit more eye catching. Same with sharp edges. I just think logos have a lot more POP BAM HERE I AM when they are simple and clean.

This is pretty messy, and I couldn't find the right font. But it gets some of the ideas I'm trying to say down visually because I'm pretty lame with words. To me, this is a lot more like a logo. Again though, this is largely personal preference. (and vendettas against bevel and emboss haha)

Alright so, with my first (demo) game complete, now I have no idea what to work on. A new game, yeah, but... I dunno, maybe I'm still really bad at using RPG Maker. What did you (most of you awesome veteran sorts) do to get more comfortable with RPG Maker VX Ace?

@Davant

The curse of the demo!! aieee! So many good games die to that.  Honestly, it's just practice, practice, practice.  Keep using the maker, you'll get better over time.

@makio

It's appreciated, and the kind of criticism I'm looking for. You aren't the first one that's had a vendetta against bevel and emboss, so no worries.  Would a bevel + emboss be better for a title screen, or just not at all?

Went ahead and created a bevel vs. no bevel logo (I'm already leaning more towards the no bevel)

vs.

Also, any and all input is still open and welcome.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
