Maybe try studying some of the "better" ones from games?
Or change an aspect of ones that already exist.
Blocks are boring, but change them to... spheres (i would say 'balls' but then I'd... hehe, "balls" *coughsnicker*) and you've got something new...ish!
Really, puzzles in RPGs are often mild roadblocks than mind-numbing, insanity-inducing Mensa brain-busters. Mostly because you need the player to get them out of the way quickly, because the puzzle will take up their attention at the moment. In games like
Silent Hill you can afford to waste the player's time, because there are other things to keep them interested beyond the mind**** puzzles (like not dying via roaming monsters). Just as long as the puzzles won't actually
kill the player if they screw up...
OT: Trying to force myself back to work on my project.
My brain has been on vacation, and I want it to come back. Nevermind that my schedule has been screwed-up for the past 3~4 months because of the holidays and continued late flights (working as a "package handler" for a shipping company; the times I get off work vary daily).
It's very frustrating.
