ok, so recently i've been thinking that once i get good enough at scripting i want to start actual using my talent as a paid service for private projects. and, as i sat and though i wondered how i could transfer money from them to me easily. now, i dont want to use paypal because of the recent articles about its terms of service and i wanted to know if there was any other alternative of "online banking" without having to open a bank account. any thoughts?

I've heard of a few people using things like Amazon gift cards to take payment. I mean obviously you'd only be able to spend them on Amazon (and any featured brands they offer other cards for) but you wouldn't need to open up a bank account, and you'd just accept a code from people to redeem and turn into credit.

without opening a bank account, I guess another alternative would be sending money to the steam wallet... but then that is only usable in steam, and IDK if it's possible to send steam money to another user...

and yeah. what articles about the terms of paypal? I have an account and I do read the updated terms when they send me a notif, I haven't really found anything that is actually bad.

What articles about its terms of service? I've been using paypal for a few years, and the only time I've had an issue is when I wanted to make a $2000 payment to someone, and hit their "you must provide company registration for this amount" limit. It took a week or two all up and a few phone calls (because my paypal and company were set up under different names/emails), but when I'd provided everything they needed, everything went back to running like clockwork again.

I think Paypal is the only best option to use without any involvement from the banks even though I really hate it because they keep calling my phone for no reason, that why I say "no more" to them.

That happens a lot in many different areas, nothing new IMHO. Plus the article and the issue itself has only a few information to really decide on things. Anyway, I'm using it because I find it easier to use.  Else, you might need to settle using gift cards usable only in some sites or just create a bank account.

And oh well, I do think you need a credit card so that you can verify your PayPal in order to receive payments.

This point is the deciding factor: what are others using?

Depending on who your audience is, your selection may vary.

The three services I've been looking at are

1. Paypal

2. Google Wallet

3. Amazon Payments

At least, within North America these seem to be fairly common options. I don't know anything about what people in other countries use.

Accepting credit card payments are also something that you might look into if you're comfortable with it.

I see a growing number of sites offering bitcoin as a payment option as well, but I don't know how many people actually have bitcoin.

the article is here in the description of this video. i highly recommend you watch it because this video was the reason why i said no to paypal.

A lot of the articles and videos I have watched involved people making lots of transactions, or making large transactions. If you're anticipating that you're going to be seeing lots and lots of cash flow in the range of hundreds or thousands within a reasonably short amount of time, AND you don't have a bank account to pull money out, you might want to be careful there.

Unless you're anticipating lots of cash to flow, PayPal would still be a really good choice. If you anticipate a huge cash flow, I actually think having a bank account will help a lot.

And yeah, as Hime said, you also need to ask what the others are using. After all, there are two parties involved, not just you. From my experience working with some of the people here, both as a customer and a service provider, the people here seem to prefer PayPal.

Isn't that video just some complaints about the risks of PayPal freezing your account with it's balance on there? You can resolve that by regularly depositing income into an actual bank account.

Agreed. I never really liked Paypal. I only use it though when needed, like signing up and the company to me is fairly new. Just for protection.

Hah, I tried to transfer $2000 to my bank account and they froze my account. I had reached their limit of what is 'acceptable' to transfer, before they think I was comitting fraud.

I don't use PayPal whenever I can, but it's unfortunately still the only way most people can send a payment to me (because not everyone lives in Europe and has an IBAN).

I wouldn't recommend withdrawing large amounts of money (well, large as in, anything more than 100 or so).

The problem with withdrawing funds is that PayPal has to obey the international laws and treaties against money-laundering. To be able to withdraw large amounts of money, you need to proof that you've received those legitimately and are declaring them in your tax reports - that's why PayPal blocks large withdrawals.

Usually you can get that cleared if you can provide a valid merchant tax ID, but that has other requirements to be met...

Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
