What do the sprite sheets for Monster Legacy 1 actually look like?

This page http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/a/horror/monsters-legacy-1 contains a few images of the battlers, but seems to imply ("956 Sprite Sheets", "3 and 8 frames of animation for sprite sheets in both 4 and 8 directions") that there are on-map sprite sheets included. As my game uses on-map battles rather than the built-in battle system, I am really only interested in the on-map sprites.

That said, I have found that the art style for a lot of the add-ons doesn't really match the art style for the default content in RPG Maker VX Ace. So before I buy, I'd like to see a few examples of the on-map sprites. Are they available anywhere or could they be sent to me? I am fine if they are watermarked or I can just promise to delete them if I don't buy the pack.

The preview picture (on the page you linked) that says "nearly 1000 sprite sheets included" shows what they look like. That grittier realistic look is the artistic style of most (if not all) of the PV Games DLC packs. The ones pictured there are standing at a quarter turn (only usable if you have a script for it), but the DLC includes the normal 4-dir characters as well.

I had absolutely no idea that was there. I should probably check out the Ace resources too for battlers. There are some more pictures on the Steam page as well, including an awesome scorpion.

If you check out the PVGames website, there are some free sprites which you could download. They are somewhat different in quality from the later ones, obviously, but they do give a good indication of the overall look of them.

Speaking personally, I do not think that they match at all with the usual perspective. They are really designed to go with the PVGames tiles sets which have a different perspective and scale from the default ones. Also the color palette is very different. Default tends to be lighter, brighter, more colorful; PV tiles are more grungy - which is perfect for some games - but does add to the blending problem.

If you are after sprites that match the Ace RTP, you can safely assume that NONE of the PV Games packs will work for you. They are a very distinct, realistic style and are much larger than the default sprites. PV Games has a lot of resources - characters, tiles, monsters - but they will only work if your entire games uses those resources. They are very unlikely to match well with ANY other resource packs.

Yeah, I think that's what I'd been noticing, although I hadn't realized there was a meaningful single entity (e.g. PV Games) that had generated them all. They do have a consistent style, even if it's not consistent with the base set. Unfortunately, I prefer the art style of the base RPG Maker VX Ace assets, so the PV Games things won't work so well for me. I think what Kes said more or less summed it up. The perspective and color choices in the base set fit better with what I'm trying to do.

With some hunting and pecking, I can find stuff on the internet. But, pickings for monster-like sprites seem slim, since most games built with the OOB engine wouldn't have much use for them. In any case, I can continue to muddle through :) When\if I get close enough to finishing that it seems worth it, I could perhaps find the folks who made the in-box art for RPGMVXA and perhaps hire them to make\upgrade the assets that I couldn't get in high enough quality.

In any case, thanks so much for the quick replies!

I use PVGames stuff and its great high quality assets. There's animated battlers, static images, map sprites, tilesets, the whole shebang. Monster Legacy is a great buy. They do, like others have said, only really mesh with that style.

What is the OOB engine? Is that an add-on for Ace - some system that has a series of scripts?

If it's an entirely different game engine, you should know that you can't use RTP resources, or any resources using RTP as a base, in other engines.

Sorry - I never noticed this reply. OOB is an acronym folks use at work for Out of Box. It just means the vanilla, RPG Maker engine. Other than changes I've made to the ruby code and other folk's shared scripts, I'm not using these assets in a different engine. That would definitely violate the licensing terms :)

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
