A lot of people seems to have problems with mapping, maybe I should consider doing a good tutorial for it, especially for villages & cities.

For those of you who don't know, Indrah already has a mapping tutorial if you need a newbie friendly read on mapping.

My two biggest weaknesses are in constantly getting ideas which tend to ruin any progress I've made because they're so good... they derail any concentration I've had!

Also, Visual Art. I'm a beginner artist, so drawing things that people won't laugh at in the end is gonna be a real challenge...

My gratest strength is in Dialogue and puzzles, IMO.

Southern California represent!

<------Garden Grove native

But on topic, I'm kind of the same way. I can make like a handful of really good looking maps, then I run out of ideas and end up repeating myself. Like I could never make a game similar to say Torchlight or Diablo 1 or Fate where it was a straight spiraling dungeon game.

Nice.

Back on topic: One reason I love this forum is... I don't have to be afraid to show my weaknesses because people might bash about. Here, we help make eachother stronger so we can all crank out the greatest games we possibly can, whether it's a hobby or for a living :D

Yeah. As long as you post stuff in their appropriate sections of the forum, people here are more than happy to help you out if they can.

If you're uncertain about your mapping skills and need some tips, make a map and post it in the Game and Map Screenshots thread, usually people will give you a positive, constructive critique that will help you make the next one better.

Likewise with your character or tile design, make something and put it in the WIP thread and people would be happy to give you some pointers.

my strengths:

1) character creation

2) character design

3) dialogue

4) plot

my weaknesses:

1) matching my homemade art to the RTP style (disney/western comic style doesn't quite mesh with anime)

2) mapping (arg! symmetry vs. organic realism!)

3) cutting dialogue back (it's a game, not a novel, darnit!)

4) spriting/tiles (dangit, jim, we're out of pixels!)

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
How many parameters is 'too many'??
