Where does your inspiration comes from? Is it a book, a movie or another game? Where are your characters and your world based?

For example, the main character I am making has the positivity of Tidus from Final Fantasy X, one from my secondary characters is out for revenge similar with Edmond Dantes from the movie The Count of Mone Christo. I want my story to be based around real life situations and politics even though it is in a fantasy world, like Game of Thrones. At some point I want to use a scathing monologue like Par Lagerkvist used in his book The Hangman. My favorite graphic novel is The Sandman by Neil Gaiman (as you can see from my avatar), I love how he blended the myth with the reality and I love the way he wrote every chapter in the novel.

These are a few of my ispirations, what are yours?

Usually, I have an interesting idea that I get, such as "What if the party starts out dead?"  Then I play with it and see what other story ideas stick to it.

Anything can inspire you.

What can enable your trigger to get inspired though, is your brain's alertness.

Other games, TV Shows, movies, Anime anything I be like, hey that gives me an idea. Of course I don't take the idea I just get an idea from it :)

Mostly, I let my mind wander and see what I can do with whatever stray thoughts it brings back... ;)

Any old thing can turn out to be a mighty force of the narrative; one tabletop campaign I ran a few years back included one player who couldn't be arsed to work out the character creation system (in fairness, it was GURPS), and just said "Screw it; I'm giving my character Amnesia, maxed out!" (In GURPS, that disadvantage means memory loss, as opposed to the actual medical definition.)

So, of course, I started thinking about the question of "Why'd he lose his memory?"

That plotline was eventually chased down to its bitter end, and I managed to make the PLAYER feel incredibly guilty about the character accidentally killing his five-year-old son in a fencing accident...

Somehow, my players don't want that particular disadvantage anymore when I'm the GM. ;)

But seriously - for inspiration, any throwaway comment can work. One of the most peculiar - and scary - methods, as such, is one from Randall Munroe, of XKCD fame: Take three news headlines at random; these are the sound bites heard in the background as the protagonist in an action movie is going out... :D

Everything. Since I tend to ere more on the side of making silly and comical games I find the biggest inspiration tends to be conversations I have with my friends and family. But, I'm able to make jokes out of a lot things such as TV shows, games, movies, music. I especially love using music and sound effects to comedic effect.

That, said. I do write more serious things at times (I never stop being a little silly though) but I just let myself get lost in my imagination and after a little while it's almost like those people and places could be real to me. I blank out a lot into daydreams.

A little bit of everything, but recentlly I have found myself drawn to the mythology and culture of the ancient greeks and the Roman Empire.

To be honest, I gain inspiration for a new game/story almost from anything. Sometimes I'm just walking around then suddenly an idea pops into my mind. Mostly though, it would be games and books and movies/tv/anime

The thing that inspires me most to write, is the joy of getting to share the stories with other people.

When it comes to influences, like a lot of other people here, I'm influenced by everything around me. The media I enjoy and also real life situations.

Bits of trash, a dull lecture, pennies on the bus...

It's an easier question to ask what doesn't inspire me. ;)

Anything… from dreams to books, to anime, to real people… to thin air, spontaneous inspiration I feed until it grows… And them being my characters means they automatically carry something of me… intentionally or not…

Worlds are way more random… half of the time it’s just a stray idea… sometimes it’s a philosophical question… I don’t know… inspiration never made much sense…

I like bringing real world problems and beliefs into a game, though, but I try for it not to be too obvious…

All that said @Dimitris

I have a feeling I have seen that avatar somewhere… you wouldn’t happen to be a member on a community on steam, maybe?

Time to add the support for import/export default RMXP maps. Maybe there will be customized tileset support later. In theory, I can reimplement the entire RMXP inside this RMXP-made game to make more RMXP games. :kaojoy:RMXPFORMATSUPPORT.jpg
Gonna make a story driven game someday in RPG Maker about this diseased character in my head. Will keep you posted, although I was warned by the authorities that posting too much would be considered 'spamming' so I WON'T SPAM. It'll be before I go in anyways. It's gonna be messed up but it won't be explicitly pornographic so don't worry, I'll give all the content warnings. :barf::barf::barf:
If you're a RM plugin developer, and you're reading this...

Thank you. You're awesome. Even if I haven't used your plugin, your work is appreciated.
