Suppose there was a gate keeper blocking your way.

You enter battle, take off 25% of its HP, and then you run away (ie: so-called tactical retreat)

Then you come back 5 seconds later and re-challenge it. It will start the battle off with 75%.

So basically if you enter a battle, and then later come back to the same battle, the state of the enemy is the same as when you left.

What would be a good name for this mechanic?

Very similar to whitesphere - I'd call it "Persistent Battle Status" or "Persistent Troop Status".

I think Battle State Preservation would sound good.

I like the "preserve" theme that is going on.

There's also the term "carry over" but I'm not sure if it's completely applicable in this case. For example, you can carry TP over from one battle to another, but this is specifically for the same battle.

Specifying that it's related to battles or troops is also a good idea.

    Preserve Enemy Stats

though it depends on what stats you want to preserve ... is it just HP or other things as well?

I take it you're talking only about boss/unique type enemies who are not likely to turn up in multiple troops (or if they are, they represent the same entity - like a guy you have to battle early on and then have to battle later at a different location, or who's got some henchmen this time around but is still the same guy you battled before).

It will preserve anything related to the battle. The basics would include HP, MP, and states.

You could then go a bit more sophisticated and support things like transformations, or any additional minions that appeared.

For some games, this may be a necessary mechanic, for others it might be cool, for others probably not.

    Strategic Information Preservation

Strategic refers to anything meaningful beyond a single fight (long term) and it sounds battley.
