An absolute favorite? That is tough... however last season Overlord and Gate were great, and this season One-Punch Man is excellent.

    Gate

    Overlord

I'm actually super Old School and show my age, but my all time favourite is St Seiya (original series+hades), with a particular love for the Asgard Saga.

Otherwise, I have a sheer fondness for School Rumble.

Favorite would have to be Mushishi, one of the most unique shows I've ever seen. Beautiful, subtle, makes you think hours or days after an episode.

    Notable mentions:

    Baccano

    Cowboy Bebop

    Kids on the Slope

    Kino's Journey

    Nodame Cantabile

    Samurai Champloo

    Spice and Wolf

Robotech has such a special place in my heart, as it was my first exposure in the 80s to Anime.

I go to AnimeExp in Los Angeles every year, and the fan base is amazing.

Ask me tomorrow and I'll give you a different list:

    Shingeki no Kyojin

    Mobile Suit Gundam

    Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

Queen's Blade (a 'guilty pleasure' - very ecchi, but the way they turned it around to have a decent 2nd season is something)

Neon Genesis Evangelion (but I spent years of my life studying the philosophy it's based on, so I 'get' the symbolism and ending)

    Kill La Kill

Sailor Moon (original, subbed) - seasons 1, 3, and 5: haven't seen Crystal Yet, but looking forward to it at some point

Highschool of the Dead - I hope they finish the manga someday, but the anime ended at a great spot.

Black Lagoon - one of the best dubs ever (though it deviates for obvious reasons at the end of the 2nd season).

If I had to pick only one it would be Revolutionary Girl Utena. Huge fan, blew my mind as a young teen. My username is actually thanks to RGU, but it's a really obscure reference.

Other favorites would include Gintama, Mawaru Penguindrum, Digimon Tamers, JoJo, Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain, Dear Brother (the ending sucked compared to the manga though. They made it too happy). And so on. I grew up with a lot of 80s and 90s anime and manga for the most part. I really miss the old days of "intense" shoujo manga like X/1999, Angel Sanctuary, Fushigi Yugi and so on. Even back then shoujo anime adaptations typically had cheaper production or were limited to OVAs, but now it's like we don't get any at all. Would be nice if Nokemono to Hanayome got an anime.

I love One Piece too but the anime really started to burn out during Thriller Bark so I switched to reading the manga.

I've only watched the first story arc, but it is a great deconstruction of the genre.

Some anime that I really like a lot and I think were not yet cited in this topic :

    - Higurashi no naku koro ni

    - Kaiji (2 seasons)

    - Shinsekai Yori

    - Mushishi

    - Shiki

Other than that, my favorites include Hunter xHunter 2011, Gankutsuou and many more that I wont cite.

For recent/currently airing airing anime, I wont be original and cite One-punch man to begin with ! Animation is just over the top for that anime. Last season, I also found Rokka no Yuusha really good like some other people here. I also liked Gate.

I love Bleach even though my critical sense is aware that it's actually not quite good.

My favorite anime overall is probably Full Metal Alchemist (2003) followed by Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (I prefer the story and narrative structure of the 2003 version, but the Manga / Brotherhood is also fantastic).

Shaman King is also pretty good, too bad the ending of both the manga and the anime are underwhelming.

    Magi is great, too.

Dragon Ball Z and Gurren Lagann are my top two. But I like, and have seen, a lot of different anime. FMA: Brotherhood is some top-notch stuff.

I actually got really into Code Geass. So much so that I've watched both main seasons twice over. I started with older anime shows like Death Note and moved my way through to Soul Eater and Shingeki no Kyojin (though I never finished SE).
