What do you enjoy the most?
I would say drawing and pixel art but I must admit it gets tedious at some point, but I always enjoy writing because I can imagine all the scenes I want. (what I hate the most is looking for sound effects)

Well, currently, my favorite part is exploring, experimenting, and learning. Which involves a lot of things from your options list.

But I really like coming up with ideas and figuring out how to make them work. So maybe the coding part?

I don't really do music or drawing so those are out. But I have been writing for almost 40 years so I guess that would be a close second to coding stuff.

In regards to my absolute FAVORITE part...it's definitely putting it all together to see the final product.

I love doing pixel art for my assets, as I'm an artist. I love making the characters/drawings I need for my game, but to be honest, that is not always the most accomplishing aspect.

For me, I always tend to get the most satisfaction once I finish some kind of coding, finish an enemy, finish a map with all the events, utilizing a plugin I figured out...etc. I always get immense satisfaction when I look at the final product, and go, "I think all of that works!"

  • Databasing is the favorite part, i can make anything as i pleased (but not the Enemies :headshake:)
  • Battle System, mostly a generic Turn Base, but have an effort to prototyping the Skills, Spells, Command & more (sometime i give up at this section)
  • Main Quest & Side Quest Design
  • Map Design, just about the World Maps & Interior, a little on Dungeon & Outside
that's what i have

Writing the plot by far, I think.
I also like advertising to my community, interacting with the fans etc.
Another thing I like is drafting/picking the art for the characters, as it helps me coming up with their stories, dialogues etc.
I kinda like looking for resources but it can be frustrating at times, so it's a hit 'n miss.
I also generally like playing the game itself, but not so much anymore after the tenth time.
Finally, mapping is something I quite like doing, especially with good resources.

I think it's between just having worlds come to life with characters, NPCs and dialogue and immersing myself in these little virtual lands I've made for myself, and the joy of figuring out how to event something the way I want, almost like a puzzle that's to be solved! Sometimes my solutions are a bit awkward, but when it works, I'm still super happy.

it's definitely putting it all together to see the final product.

This line contains two things that give me opposite feelings actually. I LOVE seeing the final product, it's such a fantastic sensation. But generally speaking putting it all together, ie the final stages of development, is kinda exhausting, frustrating, boring even, and not exactly what I'd call enjoyable.
You need to close so many loose ends, replay so many times the same things over and over, with the stress of the release date drawing nearer on top of it all... a very necessary part of game dev, but I'd never call it my favorite.

I interpret "putting it all together" not as "polishing the game" but as putting all separate concepts into a working game. You have the story, assets, plugins/scripts, and database idea. Then make them a game. Perhaps, it means something different for you since you have produced a lot of games and you might feel like "well, duh. That's the game dev itself".

But for me (as I actually chose that) and some people who barely finished a game or two, seeing the concept come to life is satisfying. My choice aside from that was coding, battle system, and character design. I spent most of my time creating proof-of-concept, I wouldn't call it a game. But when the concept is actually working and fun in the game(most of the time, it isn't), it is satisfying.

As they said "to see the final product", I thought it implied polishing it all before making it ready for release. Not so much the early stages of preparation which are generally so far away from the actual release and would make it a bit odd to group together in the same sentence.

I love the backend and audio stuff. So databasing and coding as well as finding and editing audio. I have the hardest time with visuals. So sprites, icons, maps and animations all give me a hard time.

This is what I was thinking when I wrote it.

Concept art, character/monster designs, plot (twists) and character story, worldbuilding do it most for me.

Edit: oh and for some reason I really like designing and drawing title screens too xD

For me it's the battle system and plot. I write fantasy novels, so this is just par for the course. Although the battle system in rpg maker is pretty simple, I get a lot of enjoyment in making unique feeling classes and skills. However, balancing the battle system is a whole different story...

Created blueprint in your mind (how character looks, world looks, in map looks, battle gameplay) and make your vision become alive. Thx for MV engine and community who make many plugins for achieve that.

I dont like edit/making sprite, because consume much time. I like what Rpgmaker Unite did. Use 3D model save frame by frame to make svbattler or charset, less consume time.

Well, I love to write, always did and I love pixelart and do some for my project, many edits but some own stuff, too. Mapping is something I also like, normally, but sometimes I just write stuff for the story or do pixelart instead, to avoid mapping. I really dont know why, but starting to work on a new map often frightens me or something, but If Im working on a map I do until Im finished.

Where's the 'Procrastinate and never actually getting anything done' option?

But more seriously, I love designing systems, so the battle system, obviously.
And the story. Well, mostly the dialogues. I love roleplaying them out in my head. Now if only I could be bothered to write them down.
