My most prized possession is my Xbox 360 controller.

It came with my first Xbox 360 (which was from that first batch with the RROD issues) and is now 10 years old. My great-grandmother bought it for me as a surprise, just because she loved me and knew what I enjoyed (I love my great-grandmother :3).

I have, after doing some rough math, put that controller through almost 30k hours of gaming. The only thing on it that isn't factory is the battery pack, mine fell apart D;.

It isn't the most pristine controller, the grips on both thumbsticks have been worn down completely, both thumbsticks stick at certain angles, and the RB and LB both have broken springs in them.

But, despite that, it is my most prized possession. Through a decade of games and emotion, sometimes getting physically violent with it, it has been with me. And even when, one day, it finally falls apart into a pile of half-melted plastic, I will pick up the pieces and send it off to be put back together and continue using it for as long as I possibly can.

Now I ask ,what is your most prized possession? What's the story behind it? =3

A black notebook full of advice given to me by my father as he was dying, now amended with additional advice I want to pass to my daughters that is to...'mature' I guess to talk about with them right now. Just in case I'm not around either when they are old enough to need it. Not just advice either but just stories from the past, experiences that have insights into who we were that would just confuse a child who is still learning who she is and still overly idealizes me but that every adult should know about their parents and who they truly were as people... just a bunch of stories that would be a shame to lose to an untimely death in the end I guess.

My violin.

Not only is it literally one of the most expensive things I own, but when I think about the one thing that gave me the most enjoyment and really enriched my time, it was my violin.

I was pretty young when I became serious about instrumental and performance music. When I was still in school I practiced four to six hours a day. I had a very old and worn student violin. Sounded like teeth on a sheet of foil. My mom could not afford me a professional violin or even lessons.

I decided I'd get my own violin. Got a job at a library. Started making payments on it when I was 15 and I didn't finish paying it off until I was nearly done with university. And I cannot tell you how awesome it feels to finally own my very own German made violin.

It's been there with me in every orchestra I've been invited to play with, all the folk music festivals I've fiddled at, all the jazz (yes, jazz violin) competitions I've competed in, and it even helped me fund some of my education. The investment definitely paid for itself.

My most prized possession is ALSO my mind.

Your mind is also your most precious possession.

No matter what.

If you got a good mind, good things will happen to you and thus it is precious for what it brings.

If you got a bad mind, it will cost you a lot sooner or later. Friends, relatives, partners. It is precious for what you sacrificed because of it.

Hmmm... on second thought it can become priceless....

I'm bad in this whole "favorite" thing so I don't know for sure.

However "the clans" fictional world is very important to me as it is part of me.

For me, its' not necessarily about my favorite possession.  My controller is a source of pride for me, it represents years of accomplishments and dedication..to video games.  o3o Hm, sounds a little weird when I say it out loud.

My sound library of nearly 2000 effects. That took me years to make.

My material most prized possession is my PC. I can be happy with a PC with Internet. I need nothing else.

A very old photo album with pictures of my grandparents, the album itself and the oldest pics inside are at least 80 years old, but overall everything is still in a pretty good condition. The pics are all put in a perfect chronological order, starting from the youth of my grandfather (with a few pics that are so old to be barely visible), then there are a few pics of him working in the mines, his marriage with my grandmother, a few pics of when he participated to World War II, and the infancy of my father and his siblings (these are the latest\newest ones).

2

A diary of my great-uncle (the brother of my grandmother), he basically wrote the events of when he partecipated to World War II, it's not finished sadly.

I'm going to share a picture here of my most prized possession. It is one of the only things (besides my son and laptop) that I will take with me in case of emergency. Words can't describe how important these are to me.

These two objects hold no monetary value, but if I lost them... I don't know.

They are the hand and foot molds of my first son (who passed away).

My answer remains the same.

How could I choose between the relics of my lost childhood--photos and cards/letters from a time long gone to a binder full of pictures and writing done by me and my now far-away best friend when we were close? How about the stacks of stories I wrote when I first realized I was serious about writing? Or my kitty?

I don't think I could ever choose. ;_;

Easily, its' obviously the kitty. D:

But you don't have to choose! It just sort of happens a lot of the time. I've had tons of gaming consoles (and controllers), and my Xbox 360 just happened to be the one that I really started getting serious about gaming with, even though I've replaced the console. It was with me in a time in my life where I really started to find out who I was as a person. I value it simply because it was with me through all of that, thousands of hours. Its' the only thing that I own that I have kept for this long. D:

Also, I'd like to read some of those stories sometime! >_<

Mainly because I'd like be friends with ya owo^

I'm going to rule out non-material things. So no saying "my mind" or stuff like that, or intellectual property.

For the things I own.. I don't have really many sentimental items. I have photos from my wedding, but I have digital copies, and they are on the cloud and my mom has them on her computer as well. My parents have more photos of my kids than I do.

I like my computer, but it could be replaced fairly easily. Any computer of similar specs would do. Same with most of my other possessions.

I think I would have to say one of two things.

1. There is a book, called I Am a Bunny. I have a copy that belonged to my brother when he was a child, before I was born. The opening lines are "I am a bunny. My name is Nicholas. I live in a hollow tree." It was where I got my name from. It is in a box, in my parents house.

2. My board game collection. Some parts of it aren't replaceable (I have some games that are very rare, and would cost a good bit to replace, even if I could find them), but for the most part. My board games are a big hobby, and they are one of the easiest ways for me to connect to other people. I'm not a super outgoing guy. Board games give me that connection, and are things I can share with my daughter and my son. They just mean a lot to me.

My like is for understanding your feelings. Not for liking what I just read.

I can't imagine the pain you passed through that experience.

But I can REALLY understand how important this is to you.  :(

When it comes to material things, I'm usually not very sentimental, but I do have a few things that are really special to me:

- I have a box where I keep all of the drawings and cards my younger brother has sent me since I've gone to college. He was just learning to write before I moved out, and we'd always been doing art projects together, so we've been sending each other drawings and messages back and forth. They're really nice to look through when I'm feeling homesick, but it's gotten more and more bittersweet the longer I've been gone. I see his handwriting and drawings improve little by little, and can't help but wish I was there to see him improve.

- I also have a stuffed dinosaur that my friends had given me on my birthday last year. It was one of our last big gatherings before graduating from high school, so it just brings back all sorts of great memories I experienced with them. Even if we don't all get to see each other very often now, it's still nice to look back on some of the wonderful people I've gotten to know.

I just now read your post. I feel for you. The first, and only time I was pregnant, I lost the child to a miscarriage. The pain of losing someone like that is terrible.

Then be friends me, you silly person.

You don't REALLY want to read these stories, but I'm thinking of posting an excerpt from the first of the "series". Haha. just for laughs.

If all these things were in a box, that'd be my most prized posession I suppose.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
