Hello !

Just wondering, what kinda hosting will I need to host my game on html ?

I currently have 2 kinda hostings :

Shared hosting plan @ Hostgator ( Yes they suck after EIG took over )

+ A super low budget VPS that said I cant run game servers ( Not sure if MV Counts tho ! )

( 2 core, 2gb + 2gb burstable ram, 2 TB BW + 60 GB Space with an uplink of abt 10 mbps ( when i tested )

I'm offering free web hosting for MV games with a subdomain on mvgamehub.com, if you're interested just send me a PM.

I will have to check that out, Hudell... Did it, and you haven't launched yet!?!?! When I have my Farm Life 2040 game 100% bug free,I will get a hold of you.

As for OP, I don't know what you have to do to make it happen, but I had seen an MV game hosted on Drop Box. The game, Adventures of the Drunk Magician was hosted on DB, actually. Nothing wrong with spreading your game far and wide...until you go to update it and have to hunt down each instance. Lol

dropbox cannot handle lots of traffic. so it's usually used just to share your game for your friend for testing purpose....

you might need actual web hosting for bigger traffic. Hudell offer is really promising. :D

Even if your game is not ready, you're free to host it there anyway, because you will be able to update it whenever you want (you won't need my help to update it)

I’m testing what I can get away with on my low end Dreamhost (shared hosting) account and so far everything works. Considering that a MV game should just be a collection of JSON/JavaScript and HTML files the running of the game should take place entirely on the client side (player’s computer/web browser). So MV shouldn't count as running a game server or anything like that. Your host is just serving the files like any other webpage.

With that said I don’t know how much of a game initially gets loaded on the client’s side, how much back and forth talking a game generates, and how all that might escalate in relation to the size of a game. So if one of your hosts has a data cap on uploads (send data to the client/player) you could hit that or if they have a bandwidth limit on uploads the initial loading of the game and loading of maps could be slow.

I’m still trying to feel all this out myself so take everything I said with a grain of salt.

Hi,

I'm new here and trying to find out if there is really a need to host MV games. Can it be just an app installed on Windows Desktop and/or andriod phone?

Yes, it can be a local program - the webhosting is for people who want to host it on their website (and any hoster that gives FTP access to upload your own pages is enough, MV does not require a game server for web deployment)
