We have seen many people coming with great ideas for a game they want to make but sadly, Not  all of them reached the goal of completing  their games. Some had giving up in the middle of the work, or simply lost their interest to continue it.

As for me, I already had made 2 complete games so far and one main thing that motivates me to finish them because I had poured all of my passions & interest in them. To be honest, I gained small supports from my friends and family, but I took this matter as a challenge for newbie like me to do the best.

Congratulations for the members, whom had their games in complete section & also for those whom will finish their games soon!

So, what is your motivation to finish your game? Was it because of supports? Contest? hopefully

your motivation will encourage others whom still in the middle of their journey.

Playing my game provides my major motivation.

Whenever I've made some major progress like completing a scene or making a event driven boss battle, featuring my new maps, battle effects and music - I see where my hard work has taken me and where my game is going, and I become hyped about being able to sit down and enjoy the finished product.

If you don't enjoy playing your own game, then that's a sign that you either need to take a break because you're burnt out, or it means that there is probably something seriously wrong with your game and you need to get back to the drawing board.

I use this as my minimum standard when evaluating my game and my progress, ans it's where I find the most motivation to keep on making.

Another source both motivation and inspiration is the screenshot thread and the project development section of this forum. I browse both of these places frequently for ideas and motivation. Seeing what other people have accomplished and having an idea of how they did it, makes me want to get back to my project and see if I can't do something similar.

I always feel passionate about making a game because when I was a little kid, I felt so happy when I played a game and brought on a joy that was so powerful that I want to be able to recreate that feeling for others to enjoy. I like beig able to do things my way and I've always used video games as a form of escapism from my stresses of everyday life and I want to give someone a world where they can feel like they're important and what they do can improve other people's lives, even if it's not real. I'm currently 13 and plan making more games for other gamers! That's what motivates me.

The interaction with the players, and the satisfaction of finishing a game (I'm a completionist :) )

My only motivation is the one who underestimates me.

Edit : for example someone says : "You'll never finish your game", or "I'm going to leave the team coz your project has no future". These words really boost my motivation to finish the game.

I hit road blocks in ideas like I am now, so ill end up taking a break, and then sometimes I feel like my ideas seem a lil corny, but they are also unique, so I keep on pushing. Before I know it, it's as if my game takes on a life of it's own, and makes it's own story. I just wish I knew more about scripting so I could put some minigames in my game lol.

LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY IF IT'S A SUCCESSFUL COMMERICAL GAME!!!

No.., Actually, I'm more motivated by reaching little goals to build up to the game.

I feel motivated everytime I look at what I've done so far, my current accomplishments, and what do I have to do next, my current goals. Both of these things make me want to continue.

I'm pretty selfish, but others' works make me think about what my goals can be, so they sure have an impact,

I definitely need more motivation, the type of motivation that hits me in the face immediately if I stray away. Right now I need more motivation than playing Terraria provides me. =/

What drives me more than anything is the enjoyment I get out of working on it, it's pure enjoyment. What inspires me to go back and improve upon my initial concepts are the many great games that others are working on... my main hindrance right now is my brand new puppy, Rin. Who is extremely jealous of my laptop.

I just like creating things. Whether it is writing, traditional drawing, digital design. I just enjoy creating things and if I have fun making something, I'm going to do whatever I can to make sure I finish it, because it's fun.

Seeing my ideas materialise into an actual game is perhaps the biggest motivation for me. Stuff that I spent weeks or even months visualising in my head finally becoming real is extremely intoxicating. Additionally, I tend to frequently listen to the music tracks that I have planned to use in certain scenes of the game. Feeling the emotion from the song gives me the drive to get back to the game so that I can transfer that emotion into a visual form.

I found that the best motivation is to release something and have people playing it. I know that releasing something implies something being vaguelly "finished" in the first place, but there is no better motivation than having your game being played. One of my RPG Maker MMOs was going so slowly that I just wiped it clean, made a simple map, uploaded it, and got a bunch of people to play it. From there I eventually finished the game (although it didn't stay online too long) because them playing was enough motivaton to complete more.

I am motivated because of all the people who doubted me.  A lot of people think they're better than me and when I actually finish my game and people get to enjoy the magic, those people may think twice before doubting me again.  But also, I go back and play what I have already worked so hard on, and it makes me want to continue until I have a polished finished product to enjoy.

For me, it's often the contents of the ideas I have in my head that scream at me to keep going.

My motivation is to share a vision of what a game should be, although limited by my skill, I still want to share what I think would be a cool game.

If I may be so bold Lucky, screw people who doubt you, I think your motivation goes deeper than that. That kind of people will probably always doubt you, no matter what you do or create; it just goes to show that they project their own insecurities and fears on you. They are the ones who feel the whole world is better than them.

Sometimes I get the urge to finish my projects whenever I play other people's games.

Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
