Title, basically.
What does everybody use to convert video files to OGV for VX Ace?

I normally use Handbrake to convert all my videos, but it doesn't support OGV, which is necessary for playback inside VX Ace. I don't want to use the ones online because uploading then redownloading is unpractical and takes forever for me.

VLC media player... Click File then convert (not sure if it's the right term), pick Theora Vorbis as file type then make sure to make the extension as .ogv since VLC uses .ogg as extension by default

Woah, woah, woah... Wait, really?
I use VLC as my main media player.

I feel ashamed of myself that it could do this and I didn't know it.

I never pull up the menus because it's simply a drag and drop player these days. lol.

I feel like a child who just got a new toy, lol.

Thanks for this. I can remove Handbrake now.

I do not know if VLC allows for looping, Audacity can help you with that.

VLC is quite powerful. Only discovered recently that it can also be used as a screen recorder after years of using it. I use to use Miro Video Convertor, it's quite good, can't remember if it did ogv as well, but worth the try.

@Spoofy woah that's new... How do you make it record the screen? Can it record only a specific window?

@Dire - I dont think he needs looping as he wants an ogv video not an ogg audio anyway. :)

@ Engr.Aidktuzmiko I'm not sure if you can crop screen regions with VLC, but to get recording go to the menu tabs, media->convert/save->Capture devices tab..Ctrl+R shortcut

In the Capture devices select Capture Mode and choose Desktop, then set desired framerate to 15 or more.

Click covert.save button.

It will open another window where you can pick your encoding and set recording destination file.

Just note that the new version 2.2.4 has some issues for screen recording, if it give you problems, download version 1.1, that version works.

I haven't been able to record sound with it.

In the end it's better to use software specifally designed for screen capturing such as Open Broadcasting System

It works quite well, can be tricky to set up, have managed to record some game sessions.

Though I'm actually curious as to why the engine only supports .ogv videos, it's great to know a media player I've had for years is one I can use for file conversions.

As for screen recording, I use Bandicam (but am going to try this OBS to see if it's less laggy).

Finally I find this thread about OGV conversion. I just want to ask you a question guys, would you mind, yesterday i found this article of HD crack when I was searching on the internet since I want to convert my files into OGV, http://www.videoconverterfactory.com/tips/hd-crack.html, as you can see in the article, they say they will send me the registration key after sending them an email. I have done that, but until today, I do not get the activation code that they promised. Do you guys know any other way to get a free code because I really need it?

[mod]@LawnFamous From your reference to 'crack' and asking for a free key this looks like a request for pirated soft ware. Be aware that we do not allow pirated software and any repeat will result in an instant ban[/mod]

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such?
