What sort of character do you really enjoy using/playing in an RPG? I myself tend toward the healer/defensive type. I remember in Dragon Quest IV for the DS, at the end of the game, every one of my characters was in possession of healing spells (Solo, Kiryl, Meena, and the bonus character whom I shall not name). And whenever I've played RPGs with other people in the past, I've always been the one to take care of healing/maintaining the party.

Let me elaborate on the "wildcard". The class and character I used as examples basically function on their own, using mostly useless (though often highly amusing) techniques, but every now and then they'll work a miracle. So if you like leaving your fate up to chance, it could be exciting to use that type of character. But I generally prefer to be in control of my actions in games. ;)

So, what do you think? This has the potential to be a very exciting competition!

Oh, and if you want, you can say what you like your entire party to consist of. For example, a heavy damage dealer/healer/magic attacker/jack of all trades, for example.

I prefer a jack of all trades character. One that has skill in many different areas. I don't fully know why they appeal to me though, maybe because in any situation they're useful I guess. Compared to other party members who are more adept in whatever class they are, they may be lacking somewhere where as the jack of all trades has fairly balanced attributes.

You missed an important one. Necromancers! I love manipulator / passive aggressive / indirect roles. 100% egotistical control freak when it comes to me and rpg games. I love having a lot of guys to help me win battles. Unless they're useless. Then I usually prefer fighters.

I like high speed/mobility with high attack characters.

When I used to play FF tactics, I'd usually have an entire party of characters who'd mastered the ninja and the samurai classes, so I could have characters that could move really far in one turn, dual wielding high power katanas.

I'd wipe pretty much any enemy force our in less than 3 turns.

I also like paladin like characters, stable warriors that can heal themselves. This way I'll just outlast my opponents and beat away at them until I win.

I prefer the jack of all trades, but more specifically, not one that can make everything, but one that you can shape to your liking, that you have some control over what you want him to be (and some limitation). I think a moldable character gives you chances of choosing your own strategies, and choosing the character that either on his characterization or his visuals (?) you like the most. Because you know, people care about that. Sometimes. At least.

Of course, this kind of jack of all trades I'm saying is probably the most complicated to achieve. You need to plan about its available options, how it will be able to develop, and also how you will put a limitation to the player, so it doesn't gets to an uncontrollable status, and also the characters conserve some of their uniqueness, which is something we care often too.

So yeah, something like that,

I'm always a damage hoe when I play any kind of RPG game. When I play for fun, I play for damage, because damage is fun. Usually the physical / melee kind.

It totally depends on the game. Generally I lean towards offensive tank-type stuff, but I've gone full-DPS and healer classes too. It depends a lot on the mechanics, group dynamics, and overall fun factor.

Hmm, no one's picked the "debilitator" so far. Why bother with status ailments when you can just obliterate the enemy with your attacks and/or magic, right? But surely someone must disagree.

I usually start playing as an interesting, complicated class with lots of magic and varied abilities.

Then, after about 2% of the game, I restart playing as a warrior with a big sword.
