I am going to be designing some character resources some time later for this forum. They will be free to use both commercially and non-commercially so long as I will be credited~ (Planning on changing my name later.) :kaopride:

However, I need to know some things before hand. What types of characters does this community mainly use when it comes to their games? Do you prefer characters with a more school oriented type of setting? Do you prefer sci-fi, samurai, wizards, etc. Also what types of faces do you mainly want? (Name 8 types if possible). Basically I want to know what people generally have in their own games so that I can decide what to make later down the line. :kaoswt2:

Of course I won't be able to please everyone but I do want to do the best I can to contribute to what people would use the most on this forum. :kaojoy:

To make it as organized as possible I would love it if you would format your responses with

[Explanation of the types of characters you prefer]
and at the end place
[8 Types of faces you generally want for 1 character. For example happy, sad, serious, crying, shy, etc.]
and finally
[what program you use Rpg maker mv/ Rpg maker Vx Ace]

If you want to see how I draw you can look at my profile pic or the link below in my signature. I also have a art thread I have made and will be updating every week.

I am still a learning artist but I don't mind pushing myself further than what I am capable of right now. So go ahead and ask for anything really. I will see what I can do.:kaopride:
and if it's something I can't do then I will be honest and let you all know.

I prefer medieval heroes and monsters. I especially like criminals and bandits. Also enjoy making good looking female characters. And people with animal features. I want monster faces. There's a lack of them. Many of us use Yanfly's side view enemies, so good generator parts can create an entire game's worth of battlers.

8 Faces I want:

An elongated pig nose.

Multifaceted insect eyes.

Orc teeth.

Animal eyes. Shark eyes, cheetah eyes.

Makeup! Eyeliner, lip stick, blush.

Using RPG maker MV

@dreamfall887 Thank you very much. I will be trying out different art styles as well if people so want it. Feel free to input your ideas as well if you want!!:kaojoy:

:kaocry:
Can you elaborate on what that means. Sorry I just don't really know what simple is.:kaoswt2:

@MMMm For the 8 faces I had meant 8 different faces for 1 character! So like happy, sad, angry, etc. This way I know more what kinds of faces people want for their characters. Also thank you very much for following the Format! :kaopride:

@HawkZombie Sci-fi gotcha. If you want you can be more specific, for example do you want monsters? People? and if so which types if monsters or what types of character classes?

Everyone please remember that I will definitely take what I learn from here and focus on drawing future characters based on this forum, so definitely don't feel shy to just share your input since you don't want to miss your chance at having a possible character made later down the line. Lastly please try and follow the format I made for how to answer. It will make it more organized and easier to see. I will be updating my first post every 2 or 3 days with peoples input:kaopride:

No specifics. Since you're doing this for the benefit of the community, I say go ahead and make whatever you are in the mood for!

No, but seriously, there is not enough non-adult characters. Children, teens, hunched over people, etc. Also, I don't believe there are "cave people" outfits (namely, furs lain over as clothing), togas, or nature-as-clothing (such as wearing overlapping-leaves).
As for a specific, I've been wanting a girl child who's a sort of mix of Lucca and Squall (Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy 8 respectively). A mix of energetic genius and detached nihilism.
Emotions: Blank (not neutral, but that look that someone has absolutely no emotion whatsoever), scared laughter, tired grin, sad blush (like, you are depressed you are attracted to someone), staring into your soul, subtle embarrassment, sneaking, and thoughtful.

To compare, if you are doing things in your art style, it's probably best to go with a handful of adults that can fit into most settings to get things started, just so someone could make a game with your art style only. But really, anything you make is going to be a good contribution :)

Side thought; Your art style reminds me heavily of something, but I can't quite remember it. I think it's a webcomic I read long ago.

You're welcome!
Do you make sprites as well or just faces? I would love to see characters of different races and skin tones (Black, Asian, Native American etc)

As for faces:
Happy,
Angry,
Suprised,
Laughing,
Confused/Skeptical,
Sad,
Crying,
Embarassed/Blushing

I also agree with Hawkzombie, I would like to see more SCI-FI resources as well. Maybe some alien characters or enemies. Maybe the humans can look something like the characters from Mass Effect or Phantasy Star?

I have RPG Maker VX Ace and MV.

Simple. Something simple that people recognize the character. Not complicated.

Example: The character is a guy. Got muscle but not too muscle. Handsome face but bold. Main role: support. Attitude: Grumpy

That's it. Make a character but not too complicated. Make it simple.

But mine's different. I'll always have insane character.

@dreamfall887 I plan on taking 2 months to learn how to make sprites. As for answering your question. I plan on making
  • 8 faces
  • A battler
  • 1 bust portrait
  • 1 fully body portrait
  • Definitely walking character sprites
  • Hopefully side view battler sprites (depending on the character)
This is why I said later down the line lol. I want to make sure I can learn well enough to follow through with this. I'm hoping to be ready by December and making my first character by Christmas as a gift for the community.

I have a loooooong playlist on my Youtube account that consists entirely of art and sprite tutorials. XD
@dreamfall887 I would't mind seeing that playlist. If you can link it to me, it would be greatly appreciated :kaopride:

seconded.

I'm also a big fan of huge bulky armor. Like the space marines in Warhammer 40k or I'll even begrudgingly admit that I like the aesthetic of the Stormcast Eternals of Age of sigmar. I'm also a big fan of ostentation in armor, various embossed details and the like.

I also really like the out there style of the various costumes in Jojo's Bizarre adventure.

Our latest feature is an interview with... me?!

People4_2 (Capelet off and on) added!

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
