What was the first RPG you ever played: HMMM I'm pretty sure it was Pokémon Sapphire? I was around 6-7 and could not read, but I recognized the Logo from the anime.
What was the oldest RPG you ever played: Final Fantasy 1 for NES. I had a retro games kick in the past.
And were they the same game: Lmao no, not even the same decade.

FF1 for the NES which I never beat to this day although I got pretty far. Second was FF Legend III for the Gameboy which I did beat but learned years later isn't an FF game at all but a Square spinoff series.

First? …wait for it. Quest 64. It’s a miracle I became interested in the genre at all. I didn’t have a memory card. Tried leaving the N64 on all night but it kept overheating so I kept starting over. OMG.

Oldest? It’s not that old but I do not recall if I played anything earlier. Mother.

Well, the first is easy. You always remember your first. Eye of the Beholder published in 1991.

Oldest is harder because I don’t pay that much attention to dates. I played Wizardry 6 from 1990. I may have played something older, but I’m not sure. I own games that are older that I just haven’t gotten around to playing.

Although, if I can count any computer RPG, my friend and I made a text RPG in 1987 on the new high school computers with no hard drives. Just floppy disks. And we made graphics using X plot and whatever by taping a transparency to the monitor and plotting each line to make a picture. But that wasn’t a complete game by any sense of the word.

First was either Final Fantasy V or Tales of Phantasia as I got them both at the same time. I think I started Phantasia first but finished FF5 first, so I'm not sure which one you want to count.

Oldest is a bit harder and depends on how you define it and count remakes. I've played FF 1&2 but on the Dawn of Souls GBA port. I've also played Pokémon Crystal which may be the actual oldest if we don't count remakes and such.

I believe my first RPG was Ogre Battle. I have to say "I believe" because I was frankly too young to have any idea what was going on, but based on a vague recollection of what I saw and after researching SNES RPGs released in the USA by the time I got a SNES I've come to the conclusion that it must have been Ogre Battle.
The oldest video game RPG I've played is a little bit of Ultima I, and the oldest RPG period I've played is a little bit of Basic D&D.

I think it was Final Fantasy 9 when I was around seven years old. Also Super Mario and The Legend of the Seven Stars for the SNES comes to mind.

One tends to forget stuff that passed years or even eons ago, but my first games were Final Fantasy MQ & 6, Zelda A Link to the Past and Breath of Fire 1 & 2.

Yeah, FFMQ was a rotten mess, but who were I supposed to know that if I hadn't played a later edition? Then FF6 came along and it definitely changed my perspective.

The first RPG I ever played was Pokémon Blue, when I was six years old. I got a copy with a purple Game Boy Color for my birthday. The oldest? A close tie between Dragon Quest, which I played in my mid twenties, and Miracle Warriors: Seal of the Dark Lord, for the Sega Master System, which I played around the time that I got into Pokémon. MW was released the same year as DQ. Since Dragon Warrior wasn’t released in the U.S. until two years after Miracle Warriors, I have to hand it to MW. I didn’t play Phantasy Star until my early thirties.

This could probably be an entire thread, but it’s really interesting how replaying a game several years later can change how you relate to a character. I think Tidus from FFX got such a bad rap. I getchu. Completely different reaction as an adult now.
As you see, I still enjoy writing tutorials. Is there anything specific you want to see? (I know mapping and editing/resource making is usually popular, but those are very broad topics)
Well, I wanted to expand player battlers visually and now have 3 sheets and counting for each of my players party.
1. Regular sheet
2. The character has turned stone sheet.
3. Using potions sheet.

Technically the main hero has 4 since he starts with a wooden sword, and I felt that the battler should reflect that until he gets a metal one.

Right back to the RM game dev grind in about 15 minutes. :LZSexcite:
Days ago I gave someone the sage advice not to steer away from your main project or take up another one to abandon the first. After figuring a way that would save me years of development, I am forced to redo a lot of stuff on my own turf, near to remake half of what I have already made.
Somewhere down the line I must have crossed paths with bad karma.
