I can't really draw, but if I could I think I would enjoy drawing characters and their portraits.

I think it depends on what you can draw.

I personally am not great at pixel art but somewhat can draw portraits and busts. The reason is I've spent years drawing traditional art and never really practiced pixel art much. I feel it takes way too much time and the principles are way too different. I'm sure with practice I could get better but honestly taking so much time trying to draw eg. tilesets and it looking really bad just takes the fun away.

So I just stick to drawing portraits because while I'm not a great artist, they at least look somewhat like people.

I really enjoy making tilesets and backdrops. It is more satisfying to me.

Disclaimer: I kind of hate art because my skillset revolves around code, story, system design and other such "behind the scenes" elements. I can "sort of" create art, but it's mostly just things like recoloring existing stuff. Character artwork takes me literally days and it's generally pretty low quality.

That said, I threw in my vote for "battle and event animations," but to clarify, I'm referring to event creation with existing assets to illustrate a scene, or cobbling together (hopefully) interesting skill animations using Yanfly's super-awesome and under-appreciated action sequence system.

I thought it's super-popular though? How it's underappreciated when everyone I know talks a lot about yanfly action sequence. Even it has a thread specifically for it.

As for me, even though I dont draw much as I used to be. I enjoy character design even though most of it wont be in the game. Or faceset, it isn't essentially fun, but it isn't boring either. It just something I have to do.

If you count manipulating an existing resource into something else, I'd vote for battle animation and battleback. I edited some default battleback into something else to match with my game atmosphere. And create a custom animation from the database. Yeah, that's not totally drawing from scratch.

Talking about it is one thing, but how many games that make it to the end of production actually make use of it? And for those who do, how many take full advantage of all the really neat things it can do?

Edit: Sorry if this is a bit off-topic. :3

Well pixel art is a no for me, no skill lol
Battlers are fun to do , like those the most I guess. Most freedom, imo.
Character art is a good second place.
Backgrounds are tedious but can be fun...
Everything else... Meh

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
