Ryunosuke. That's hilarious. I thought I was the only one to use that name because everyone looks at my game and has a hard time pronouncing it, LOL.

Ah what the heck, I've changed my avatar since the last time I responded to a thread like this.

Uh. I like Undertale? I mainly chose this avatar because I wanted to show how much of an annoying gremlin I am. Same principle applied to the last avatar of this same character I used. :kaohi: (That and I just think it's cute.)

I can't remember my first projects because they were all done more than a decade ago and were not very good - I only remember bits and pieces at best.

So I'll just talk about Sundew Nightmare which might as well be my first real project. I made it for the No Travel Game Jam back in 2020 and it's since been the prospective testing bed for all of my RPG Maker experiments, even when I upgraded to MV.

My profile pic is of a supervillain apparently plotting nefarious things from the late MMORPG City of Villains, a game whose untimely death was greatly exaggerated... sort of. It gets complicated.

I gain 34 bonus XP and 12 infamy because my username is directly related to the profile pic for terrible reasons that will remain secret because of meddling heroes. I will not be foiled again, not before my sinister plans involving this hapless RPGMaker program are malevolently fulfilled to unspeakably dire results*.

My first game is inspired by true historical events of a calamitous nature that demanded I take up the digital pen and pour their long sad tale out using the brackish blood that flows in my cursed veins to illustrate the absolute certitude of Nietzschean eternal recurrence and the harrowing message that it sends to the hearts of all misguided souls who after deep personal examination who prove unworthy of the gauntlet cast before them so callously.

Failing that I'll make something with rooms, a few orcs you may fight, and a suitably merry jingle to listen to while you get more things and wise up! So there, creative sorts! You are warned.

*dire results not included in the basic edition of my game, you'll have to pre-order the Seasoned Horse Armor NFT Whale Package from ScumSoft separately for the dire that you crave - but only while supplies last. :hsrs:

I don't think that I even answered the original thread, so here goes.

The avatar is the silhouette of a Kestral (link with the name is obvious). Chosen simply because I like kestrals. Fastest UK falcon, brilliant at hovering, appearing to do nothing, and then an astonishingly fast swoop and that's dinner sorted.

As for my first game - sorry guys, I broke the rule that is given to every single newbie. How I got away with it I don't know, but I did. I only started to make a game because I kept thinking as I was playing the umpteenth FF fangame (which was what so many free games were at that time) "I can do better than this." I decided I needed to test that arrogant assumption, so got VX Ace not long after it came out and made my game 'Undefeated'. I showed it to Indinera (who I know in a different capacity) and he said it could be a commercial game. And so it came to pass. And it sold brilliantly. The result is that I never tell a newbie not to make their first game full length commercial, because I would be being a hypocrite. I'd love to go back and re-map it now that I've got 10 years of practice, but that's not going to happen.

My profile pic is basically just how I look in real life.
probably except for that dragon pet?

I have mine already posted of the meaning, I love tigers, eagles and dragons,
so for the forum I just chose my profile name and match with my DP, as I love
green, I just added a green glow to it, as it stand as "ShadowDragon".

"Shadow" is more like, I like Shadows more than the Sun, as Shadows are cool,
so I took the name ShadowDragon :) the JB for my itch acc ShadowDragonJB
is for my name initials :)

if I remake my DP, it will be probably another dragon look, but I like this outcome.
so I stick with it for a while ^^

TLB is short for Trilobytes, my coding brand. It's a triple-layer pun: Tri for Trihan, lo-bytes because I write clean and concise code, and it's a play on trilobite.

The current avatar is a stylised artwork of my mascot Trilby, drawn for me by @NaosoX.

My first project (and one of my current ones) is called Tundra. It's about a world that's turning to ice, and the name is the one thing about it that's remained constant since 2001. Though back when I was a filthy QBASIC coder before I found rm2k, it started life as an ASCII RPG called Dark Legend: The Path of Death. Because I was an edgy teenager once too.

Two of the main cast members of TGAAC are Japanese and parts of the game take place in Japan, so the localization team had to stick with Ryu's normal name for the English release, unlike with Ryu's descendant, Phoenix Wright.

Hello everyone one, don't mind if I chip in too. My profile picture comes from a card game* I created back in grade 4 called Monster pets. It was for all intent and purposes a rip off of Japanese Mon games/ animes of the 90's mainly Pokemon and Digimon* and anything that was shown on Foxkids or Ytv of that time. It looked more like Koromon from digimon and the name for it came from Squall's Limit breaker from Final fantasy 8 "Renzokuken". Years later when I became a comic book artist ( Mangaka) writing Black Suit Men , Omana Shout anthology: Mother's child ( and other series here) this red guy became my artist avatar show up to replace drawing myself in the background and it was cuter doing so. I've stop drawing manga for about 2 years and hopeful turned my focus on making my first game. This was part of my last chapter I started but hope one day I will get back to work on one day
466a4eb118662e8bb29f8887db8f3207446ed3e3r1-1125-750_hq.gif

I started as an animator before I turned to comic book artist and now im doing game desgin.
Now before I end...
*I mentioned that I made a card game before but funny enough. I have came full circle from my childhood to create one with RPG maker If I wasn't going commerial with it I would have added characters from comic above and my PFP to it.

Thank you for reading

A collage of artist who's drawn my Artist avatar and Oc

Yeah, mine is the same that's in the other thread. Page 2, 'bout halfway down if you're interested.

As for "inspiration for the story behind your first game"?

I don't know. There's always that transition from "it's just an idea" to "suddenly, the characters are telling me what happened".

1. The story was a basic "There's playing a good guy" and "there's playing a bad guy" with two different stories being told, so that it mattered what choice you made.

The image I had to work with was one I think from "The Salem Witch Trials". Those were so crazy and insane and that I was just left with this thought of, "If I had to turn my wife and children in, and be the one responsible for burning them alive, could I live with myself? What would I even do in such a situation?"

2. That story evolved as the premise evolved. I did research into "people who make choices in games" and realized that the vast majority of players just play "the good guy" in every game. They really only play "evil" typically out of curiousity or "for the lulz". That sounded really boring to me. What is interesting about everyone playing a good guy and the only people who want to be evil are just doing it because it's a video game?

I removed the morality system in my game and just made every choice more "grey". This, eventually, created the actual story and world of the game.

3. So, how do you make a choice like "Burn your wife and children alive" into something morally grey? I don't know. That's up to the player to decide. I added backstory to her character, legitimate world reasons why it would be beneficial to do so, and let the players decide. After all, she's now accused of being a spy for an enemy nation. Your best friend had such good proof that he presented it to the King. You are on orders from the King himself, to burn your own family in order to prove your allegiance. If you fail to do so, and if the troops sent along with you fail to do so, then it is THEIR families which will suffer punishment. Namely, sold into unsavory slavery while each man is executed for gross incompetence or collusion with you, should you escape.

There isn't a way to win here. You are hurting someone, no matter what you do, in this situation.

That's the game. All around. The world is terrible, unforgiving, cold, uncaring, and most people are indifferent to your plight because the world is currently plunged into chaos.

That's where the premise for my story actually "began". It's been added onto and expanded quite a lot since then, but that's the "inspiration" for it. A lot of the "darker elements" have also been removed or toned down considerably as I didn't want to create a game that was basically the video game equivalent of "giving people depression". And yes, the scene with your family and the soldiers is still present.

My current pfp is honestly from a drawing of me, if I was a fox person. Drawn by me, to note:
Ish.png

I kind of drew it on the wrong hand but that line on it is meant to be a scar I've had from childhood when our elderly cat scratched me. irl it's really, really faded, but you can still kinda see it

My profile picture is the main character for my first game, "Path of the Martyrs." He was initially made for a comic I made in 2010, but that never came to fruition. His game is part of a loosely connected expanded universe called, "The Void Chronicles". I didn't have an opinion of this character before finishing my first game, but now he is one of my favorite characters.

I just realized there's a second question. My first game? depends on which game you asked for. My first attempt to make a game or my first complete game.

... I might just answer both.

My first game:
If you have been following me in the profile post or somewhere else, you might be familiar with this OC
FoEGIM9acAAuNRP
This dated back to 2009 (when I couldn't draw digitally yet). The premise was simple. This girl was in trouble due to her unique trait, then someone, a boy save her. Then the scope of the concept sprawling bigger than I could handle (I even made an entire world-building for it)

Originally, this was a tribute to my dear friend in the past and wasn't for a game. But a novel or a comic until I eventually discovered RPG Maker. Then I made a mock-up battle system. And also my actual first battle system script I made my own, for this project

My first complete game:
It was slightly related to my first game. But the original idea was to test the robustness of my battle system script for my first game before I can use it to develop a game. I throw random characters as playable characters. I did not think a lot about it. Even though the story was badly glued together, I didn't care. I just wanted to finish a game. It was surprisingly well received during that time.

my profile pic is a meme i had on my computer, and my first game is a project i've been mulling over for a while it's heavily inspired by my own struggles with mental health issues and persona 4.
