The suplex. On trains.

Gotta love FF6 and Sabin.

Oh, and to make "Suplex" a more legit weapon type. It's a power in Kirby Super Star. Most of the moves aren't suplexes, but they are all throws/grabs/awesome. Kirby can't Suplex a train, or any boss for that matter unfortunately. It's a very fun power to use though.

Personally any game with a katana as weapon choice is my type of game. I could go with shield as a weapon though #Cap A All Day! I don't really like ranged weapons. If your farther than I can throw I am doing something wrong
Two threads in a row and I'm loving your taste.

When I was younger I always loved the dual knife style, backhand or regular grip (preferably interchangeable.) As long as you yourself are squirrely and sharp eyed then those little daggers can mess anyone up good. (example tales of xillia 2)

When I got a little older, stronger, but slower I started to prefer Katana as they offer the well trained individual both grace, precision, and titanic strength (Also Miyamoto Musashi, I mean cmon). (example way of the samurai series)

As of right now I prefer two things. DUAL SHIELDS!! THAT'S RIGHT, DUAL WIELDING SHIELDS! The shields wouldn't be massive, but with sharpened edges and one in each hand you have the ultimate combination of close range offense and defense that can be used to close distances. (example non existent as of right nao)

The other preference is bare hand or some kind of brass knuckle, knuckle dagger, etc etc.

(blackbelt in FF, jef dam vendetta, DOA, tekken, etc etc.)

What magical madness have you created?!?!? I'm down. I would use dual energy shields from marvels's Next avengers: heroes of tomorrow.

Swords are awesome, they are always balanced, specially one handed swords (or swords meant to be one handed) and even if they are melee, they are easier to handle than polearms and have a wider angle.

Words; they cut deeper than any blade, take longer to heal when they wound, and scars reopen fresh.

Not quite the typical thing in RPGs, however, unless there are incantations...

I absolutely LOVE polearms. Spears especially, they're quite flexible being great in mid-range combat. I quite like the Naginata variant as you can reliably slash with them and allow for more manoeuvrability (I'm a martial artist, they're FUN to use.). For up close and personal I'll go with straight fisticuffs using chi/qi/ki energy. On the flip side I'll just be a sniper, hiding while picking off enemies on by one... Either way 'Pierce' type weapons all the way!

But seriously though, Halberd is the true spear :p

In one of my RPG concepts, one of the party members was a Word Reaper. Basically, someone who kills words. That concept didn't get too far so I didn't develop much for this Word Reaper. Would probably be a complicated to use character who can harm your own party too. Like "Execute: PUNCH". The word punch would appear, the Word Reaper would slice the word in half, and all punch abilities would be disabled...for a brief time.

I like double-bladed swords. I don't care if they're impractical, I still think they're awesome :p

Weapons that are awesome and cool due how impractical they are.

Scythes.

Guns that are disguised as umbrellas.

Though two-handed weapons like Swords are awesome too.

I disagree with that. A weapon can look cool while still being practical, or at least reasonable. They're not mutually exclusive.

And yes, Scythes are cool too.

Katars are also really cool.

Bunch'a casuls over here. Pff, I'm sure y'all lvl dex. Nubz.

that is a Dark Souls joke, in case someone didn't notice
Anyway, going into the topic, I prefer to dual wield if the game allows me. About the weapons, it varies from game to game.

EG: In Skyrim, since all the dual wieldable weapons feel the same, I really don't care. In DS/DS2, curved swords, particularly combining the Warped Sword with the Falchion or the Scimitar due to the R2 spin attack. When Dark Souls 3 comes out, Imma be shipping the Legion Scimitars so hard.

In general, I like single-edged curved weapons or weapons that can swing fast, but do more damage than a knife or dagger would. Katanas I usually use if there's nothing better, see Bloodborne, where half the weapons are Str based and getting good Dex weapons is ridiculously hard.

In shooters, it's pretty much the same thing. If the game allows me to dual wield, I dual wield. If not, I prefer mid-range weapons like burst assault rifles or SMGs. If it's a game where the action is going to come to my face unavoidably, though, I probably will have a shotgun in my hands during the whole run.

In other words, regarding guns, I really prefer to see what the game is throwing at me and react accordingly.

lol @ "I disagree with your taste in weapons that are cool but unpracticable because some weapons can be both cool and practical" as if the person was saying there were no such things as weapons that are cool and practical, and as if this isnt an opinion thread

I meant weapons like Gunblades that are not that practical in real life compared to more practical alternatives. ;)

I was under the impression that Clord meant that fictional weapons are cool because they are impractical, I am sorry if I misunderstood. and I never stated that his opinion is wrong, just that I disagreed with it.

I remembered posting something in here earlier about mecha, but I did not. Simply Power Suits, which are more like high-tech armor. A Mecha, well, those are usually bigger!

Playing Lost Planet 2, and I love all the mecha available. The mecha themselves aren't technically weapons, because they have weapons of their own, but it counts, right? I mean, c'mon, dual-wielding gatling guns is fun!

(it's giving me some ideas for my RPGs)
