True Shaz. You are the very first.  :D   :p

Well it is all about not being able to have multiple windows in a desktop I guess.

This reduces the PC's utility.

Surely Metro is a nice interface for touch screen devices

(MSDN tutors promoted it, by developing apps on their fancy touch monitors)

but who has touch screen on his desktop nowadays?

It was a clumsy move by MS in my opinion.

I am a Linux fan but not a fanboy or a hater.

I try to judge fair enough something.

MS was reckless trying to comepte with Apple in my opinion.

Touch screen desktops are not the standard (yet) user interface.

Metro might be a glimpse from the future, but still I hope not.

But in Windows 9, sorry  Windows 10, we see Metro merged with a default desktop.

Desktop interface is not old fashioned way of working with a computer.

It's an almost 30 years constantly enhanced interface.

Personally I can't work on Windows 8. I love Windows 7 and what I saw from the upcoming Windows previews seems nice too.

And that way I will put the thread back on track, since I am the one who made things go off topic.

I believe Enterbrain will wait the new Windows 10 then they will release the new RPG Maker.

Why I think of that?

Well Windows 10 will not have an 11 as people from MS say, but constant updates... like some Linux distros do....

I wonder.... this might make an awesome commercial OS, or a real hell for users.

Still I believe it will be nice.

Thus RPG Maker 10 or something will come out and will come to stay.

Just a guess. :p

First off let's start from the basics. Windows 8 did not had the usual desktop.

Most annoying was the full screen application run.

You can't have half windowed apps. Did they fixed that? I am not talikng about W8.1 I talk strictly on W8.0

My experience was really.... let's say almost the worst I had with an OS (still better than Windows Me).

Once again, it is great for tablets and mobile phones (my sis has Lumia and it is really great, I got a Samsung though)

but tiles oriented for touch devices are not the appropriate interface for a PC in my personal opinion.

Also I missed start button.  ;_;

But they brought it back I think later...  :p

Again, I don't know what you mean by "not having multiple windows on a desktop" or "can't have half-windowed apps"

Are you saying everything runs fullscreen? Not on mine!

8.0 - I apparently can't upgrade to 8.1 because of <something> ... windows on partition or something like that?

I've only seen plugins that give you a start button.

:o  What? This.... is.... I don't even know how to call that!

Wow! Maybe they gave such a feature after an update.

I am not sure what is going on and I can't find out easily since I have not Windows 8 myself.

What you say though seems really interesting. A friend of mine struggles with W8 and now I might have good news for her.

Thanks for taking the time to tell me that. Will check it out!  :)   :thumbsup-right:

My friends have windows 8, base version AFAIK and they could fit multiple windows in the desktop...

The windows 8 desktop is VERY similar to the windows 7 desktop - except it doesn't have the start button. Is your friend GOING to the desktop, or just running everything from the metro screen?

She uses the desktop. She just can't find a way to have two windows constantly on the desktop.

well does she have them maximized/fullscreen? That's a standard windows function that's been around as long as Windows has been around. She should be able to resize them and drag them around so they can both be open at the same time.

I used her laptop. It wasn't only her. For some reason we didnt had such a feature. You use Word? It's only fullscreen or nothing.

Except if we did that the wrong way... that's a possibility I suppose.

If it's fullscreen, try double-clicking on the window title bar to 'restore' it and switch it out of windows mode. Or just click in the title bar and drag it down. Yes, I use all the Office package.

I wonder if there's some setting that controls it globally - I have certainly never had this issue on any computer, with any version of Windows.

Win8 has a display mode where the titlebar does not exists, and I remember having problems getting out of there as well when I was trying to work with win8-computers. It is one of the reasons why I personally don't use 8 - I usually solved that by creating program links on the desktop, that forces the programs to launch in regular fullscreen mode.
There are probably other ways around it, but I never bothered to learn them...

This is anyway a thing that needs some more research from me.

I wanna see what is wrong now! :p

I am a curious cat when it comes to problems that could not be there with just a setting.

When I will see her, I will try things out and will tell you what I found!  :p

okay :) Now we'll get back to topic.

I might pull these off-topic posts out into their own thread later.

OpenGL would be a nice addition to the graphics system.  The CPU dependent system seems to be a bit ineffective when you get too many different graphics and events going at the same time.  Stacking update scripts on top of that, and it can get pretty heavy on your CPU.

I would like to see this in the next version, instead of these hidden drawing scripts built into the RGSS dll file.  Script support for the opengl would be very handy as well, at least for your own use.

I have yet to find ONE who is not annoyed by that OS... :p
<----this guy!

Of course, I am not annoyed by it simply because I have no experience trying to interact with it :p

Good for you! That means you didn't dump too much time into the S*** Salad known as Win8

And I for one kind of hope they don't release a new engine within the next year. I just got my box copy of VX Ace...

When do you think the next RPG MAKER ENGINE will release? Is ENTERBRAIN working on one or still thinking of it? When do you think it will come out? Maybe 2015 or later. Can't wait to see it. Or are they even making another? It's the question for these forums...
Very hard to say, especially with no real information about the possibility of an export add-on, and what impact that would have.

A part of me thinks that if an export add-on becomes available for VX-Ace, then they'll probably want to recoup their expenses and get as much profit from that before diving into a new maker. If that's the case, I'd speculate another couple of years before we even hear an annoucement, bringing us towards the latter half of 2017 before we actually get a new maker.

If they instead decide to bring the export feature to a new maker, then I'd speculate that development of this new maker is well underway, and we'll probably hear something within the next year.

Of course, it's possible they could be working on both at the same time (an export add-on for Ace and a new maker with this feature as well), both released within close proximity. Hopefully they get something out soon (be it an add-on for Ace or part of a new maker), before the Android and iOS market dries up.

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
