when I find resources like sprites when I try to import them they are messed up and will not let me use that sprite. Sometimes it will only let me use small pieces of the sprite

That spritesheet only has one character on it. You need to rename the file, so it starts with $ - this is Ace's signal to only break it into 3 columns and 4 rows, rather than 12 and 8 which is the default.

is there a list of like tags I should put these things in so I can change them accordingly? and the background for that sprite stayed white how would I get it to match the background of the map?

Check the link in my signature, one of the tips there explains the naming convention.

To have transparancy, you'll either have to use a graphic program and a fileformat that support transparency, or to use the resource manager to set the transparency options when importing.

Attention: if you import a filetype with the resource manager that supports transparency but has not set it, then the resource manager might skip the step to set transparency believing that you had set it correctly in the file.

It's also in the help file. $ means the character sheet only has one character (if you have space for 8, but you only use one, don't use $). ! means when Ace renders it, it should not render it a few pixels higher than the map grid. Use ! for things like doors, where you want the bottom aligned exactly on the grid.

Back in action to develop the indie game that has been long overdue... Final Fallacy. A game that keeps on giving! The development never ends as the developer thinks to be the smart cookie by coming back and beginning by saying... "Oh bother, this indie game has been long overdue..." How could one resist such? So I was playing with filters and this looked interesting...

Versus the normal look...

Kind of gives a very different feel. :LZSexcite:
To whom ever person or persons who re-did the DS/DS+ asset packs for MV (as in, they are all 48x48, and not just x2 the pixel scale) .... THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!! XwwwwX
