So I'm doing the stats of equipment, characters, and monsters. And I'm noticing, my magic users do little to no damage on their normal attacks. I don't expect them to be pulling out the big guns and doing whopping amounts of say 100 damage on a normal attack -- Well maybe when they are a high level --, but I also feel their basic attack shouldn't just be there to feel, meh, you know?


In my messing around with numbers, I decided, I would keep their innate stats the same. So I gave one magic user an attack element of fire. I have no idea if it works or not, to be honest. A lot of the early monsters you face are weaker to fire, so hopefully that does something, and most of her skills are fire based. Her normal attacks still felt kind of weak. So then I decided, I'll just make her weapons raise her normal attack by a miniscule amount and give them elemental damage as well. So now her normal attack, I guess I'll call it auto attack for now, is rather decent, and it doesn't feel weak. It even looks magical.


My other magic user has no damaging abilities when she joins the party, but has light based basic attacks on her actor thing (again no idea if it works) and she finds a rather *cheese* weapon that does fire and ice damage, as well as having a possibility to inflict two states.


The magic users are pretty strong, and when compared to my non-magic users, don't feel all that more powerful. But I have taken note that they do feel a bit... They just feel weird. However, I also like that they feel weird, as I want a shift to be felt with each member.


So, the topic at hand is, when is a magic user too viable in your opinion?
