I often watch anime or listen to music or just plain out work on my game like I usually do to get all that off my mind.

Mostly works, sometimes doesn't and it flows around in my head all day. Eventually I get over it, because you can't stay sad forever.

I watch anime, read, watch tv, draw, etc.  Anything, really to get my mind off of things.

My favorite thing to do it sit outside when it's nice out with a nice drink (warm or cold, depending on the temperature) with a book.  Currently that's Game of Thrones, which isn't too relaxing, but it gets the job done. :)

Listen to music, by far and away the major winner. If you are feeling down but know that you want to cheer yourself up, certain types of music are just so upbeat that you will not fail to be moved by the music.

For me, that type of music happens to be Nightcore, which includes a lot of up-tempo songs that could fit on a nightclub dance scene; I generally find a 1-hour or longer playlist of music on Youtube, drag that browser tab to the television connected through HDMI, and be reading or typing comments in a forum while the frustration, sadness, or general "disturbia" fades away. (Although I could really do without the Miku imagery that goes with so many of the Nightcore'd songs; something about that chibi just ... pisses me off again.)

Coffee, writing and meditation works best for me. I avoid music because I tend to listen to sad music anyway so it's a bad idea. Often watching Doctor Who helps a lot too.

Go for a walk, usually in a forest area (easy where I live), listen to music, watch sentimental movies, and bake goodies (bad habit, I don't recommend it!!!).

judge judy xD?
She is a reality television small claims court judge. The show is a staple of American day time television. I'm pretty sure much of the show is set up and maybe even semi-scripted and it is an entertainment show, but boy is it entertaining.

I shovel horse ****(seriously) and try to find anything else physically taxing that needs to be done at the time. Digging fence posts, chopping firewood (that I buy uncut for that very purpose.) Sometimes I'll practice riding bareback just for the added physical strain or haul tack/feed/hay to the pasture shed manually rather than by 4x4. I've struggled with depression in the past (mostly the distant past) and what I've found is chilling out with hobbies and trying to relax just leaves my mind free to wander and often gravitate towards whatever it is that is saddening me at the time. When I'm sad the last thing I want is tranquility and relaxation, I want to be so taxed both physically and mentally that I don't have time to dwell on my sorrows, I want to be in a situation where all I can do is focus on whatever tasks are at hand and keep at it until I can't keep going and collapse in exhaustion from my expended efforts. Then in the morning, after I've kept my mind off of it's depressions as long as I could and managed to (usually) get a really, really good night's rest I'll face whatever it is that's causing my depression head on with a clearer mind than I had the day before.

Usually, I look at real estate (mostly in Tokyo), imagine my family and I as wizards in HP world, or listen to religious recitations when I'm down. I used to take naps but nowadays my anxiety keeps me from falling asleep.

I suppose it depends on the level of sad. For most things, my careful regiment of denial, repression and baked goods does the trick. If it's a bit worse, i usually hunker down with DVDs of comedies like Big Bang Theory, Are You Being Served?, Friends or Keeping Up Appearances. (Oddly enough tv adaptations of murder mysteries like Miss Marple, Poirot or Midsomer Murders also help.)

Then of course, when things get Bad (with the capital B) , it's really only prayer that pulls me out.

There is a Polish version of that and it's hilarious, at least most of the time.

My grandmother really likes it and when she came over to visit us in Luxembourg she always wanted to watch watch it. Fun times.

It's all scripted here, but supposed to be based on real stories. The more I think about it the more unrealistic it seems.

OT:personally I can't remember the last time I was sad... it's more annoyed / stressed if anything. My life's been really, really weird and yet somehow it all falls into place at the end. When I'm sad I just tell myself that it's going to work out and it does work out.

When I'm really stressed out or annoyed though I usually play some really challenging strategy game, like Europa Universalis or Anno with some ridiculous challenges. I have to focus on it 100% and it gets my mind off things I don't want to think about.

TBH I think that even sadness needs to be experienced sometimes.

You don't have to postpone it with distractions, rather you deal with it, live it and try to understand constructively what prevents you from being happy. I don't do anything personally, I just try to understand why I'm sad and try to resolve the problem to the root.

Indeed!

If you feel sad often then it should be treated, seek out its reasons to exist and deal with them. If not, most probably it is just a mood, and like all moods, it will come to pass on its own. We have different moods for so many different shallow reasons that unless your desire is to know thyself then there's no point in dealing with each of 'em.

The problem is that even moods don't go as fast as we would like to and unless you have a use for such mood (sadness - like creating something, for instante a song or a story), being sad usually means putting other things aside because of it. Your feelings should follow you and not viceversa, sitting down everytime you feel the blues may not be such a great plan if you have other more urgent things to do (not important, just urgent), so it's a good idea to have a plan, something that usually cheers you up in order to minimize such waste of time that is caused by feeling sad. There is no shame in feeling sadness as there is no shame in controlling it if the need arises.

Although since it's a good excuse to watch Doctor Who when I don't have any urgent matters I usually just let it happen then.

Cheers.

Whenever I feel sad, I usually listen to calm, soothing music. Foxamoore, one of my favorite musicians, makes some amazing music. Other times, then the situation requires that I can't be sad, I focus and use that sadness to fuel my determination. There will be a time when I have to break down, but I'll strive until what is needed to be done is done.

Drown my ears in music. Rarely soft. Overwhelmingly aggressive/heavy. No matter what mood I'm in, aggressive music (mainly metal) can change it, from sad to happy, angry to calm. Love it.

so hopefully tomorrow i get to go home from the hospital i've been here for 5 days already and it's driving me mad. I miss my family like crazy but at least I get to use my own toiletries and my own clothes. My mom is coming to visit soon i can't wait to see her cause i miss her the most. :kaojoy:
Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
