Yes, determination has a lot to do with how a person faces sadness/being "down". I realize after self-examination that it's nearly impossible for me to stay sad for long. Especially impossible, considering that my motivation comes from being a Christian with a Scriptural view of things.
Oh, I feel sad for a bit when something negative happens; the darkest times may yet come but this too shall pass -- but it really is difficult to be truly sad for very long, because I've got such a great hope for the future.
