So I really want to incorporate audio and sounds that aren't RTP into my MV project. But since I may end up taking my project commercial I want to make sure I won't run into any trouble with copyright.

I get that the safest bet is to record or mix your own sounds. But if I'm in a bind for a sound what's a pretty trustworthy site to use? The first one that comes up when googling is Freesound but I'd like to hear people's opinions/recommendations.

My first spot to look is right here. Have you looked at the music available on this site? We have so many talented musicians who have offered up a large variety of songs, free to use. I highly recommend you take a look through the general resources section to see what is available.

And I realize you are asking about sound effects and such as well. Or maybe only? I think there are some free to use resources available here as well. If not some of our music creators have some SE packs available as well I believe.

Yes, there are some sound effects in packs I got from here. :)  Ms Littlefish had a few in the Holidays Pack, for example. But I wish they would do more in terms of sound effects. I would totally buy a whole pack from her ;) ;).

I hired a composer. That solved the problem for me.

There's a lot of Music Packs on the forum store that come bundled with LOADS of BGMs, BGS, SEs, and MEs for really good prices~ I'm talking in the hundreds, you'll definitely find a lot of things you like :3

I haven't really looked into any of the resource threads yet, I was on my way to class when I posted this.

There's definitely a lot of different kinds of music people have made on here, and it's kind of overwhelming  :distrust:   ...which is why I am currently trying to focus on sound effects right now that I feel would add to the environment/immersion of the game. For example: There's a scene at the start of the game where the PC's mother is crying. I'd preferably like to insert a sobbing sound effect rather than text cues.

Can someone point me into the right direction then in the store or some possible reccomendations? I bought a few packs in VXAce that have pretty good music, but sadly, no sound effects.

http://www.sonniss.com/sound-effects/free-download-game-audio/ <There's paid packs on that site as well.

The Unity store can also be a good place to buy SFX packs. Just make sure the packs are ok to be used in non-unity engines, though most of are though.

And Freesound can be alright, actually. There's a lot to slog through, it's really only good if you know what you want first lol.

Did a quick search through the store (may have missed some), all of these contain sound effects or music effects to varying degrees. Some are more suited to particular genres, I'm not sure what type of game you are making so read the descriptions carefully and check out the samples to see if you like the styles, etc...

I'm sure there are free ones on the forums as well from some of the talented artists.

My sources:

freesound.org - one of the biggest music and sound database on the net. Most of their stuff is free to use.

soundimage.org - wonderful tracks from Eric Matyas - free to use

And of course tons of stuff from the ReStaff materials.

For BGM, I referred to Kevin MacLeod and Bensound.
Thanks for bringing my attention to Bensound. :) I've never heared about the site, but I think I will be a frequent visitor there.

Check out newgrounds. You can request audio files in their forums, I was able to get quite a bit of music for free as there is a lot of aspiring song artists on there.

You can also use Newgrounds to find some semi-talented voice actors. //rmwforums.s3.amazonaws.com/emoticons/default_biggrin.gif

For BGM I use the official store, and Kevin MacLeod's Incompetech (incompetech.com). The latter is my go-to, there are some seriously awesome tracks there.

For BGM try http://soundimage.org/. Eric is a very good musician. He has music for loop-able and non-loop-able tracks. For commercial use he does ask you to contact him before using his music. He charges a small fee for his music to be used commercially, but the quality of the music is amazing. There are also sound tracks for all types of genres and situations. This includes music for conversations, menus, battle, overworld and much more.
