In five years I will be 36 so I better have my purple painted mansion with purple accessories and my pimped out duece and a quarter (Buick 225). I planned to be hella rich by the time I'm 35 so I'm still working on it.

I made this vow at 12 to become richer than Michael Jackson but since I'm tone deaf I changed to becoming the best game programmer ever at 14 after playing a game that made me snap the cd in anger over the crappy ending. I studied, went to college and did everything I needed to know the business and related jobs (art, coding, music, psychology, story telling, script writing, sales, marketing, etc etc etc) . 10 years in and several jobs later (dot com bust crap economy etc) I decided to run my own business and sling code myself

Since I'm doing the job of 15 people it's slow but im hoping my wares are as successful as king software and such.

Having a 5 year goal is great. But making a roadmap to achieve that goal will do so much more for you.

For instance, when I started working for IBM. I told them I wanted to advance 4 pay grades into a full salaries position (which in the corporate world, it's hard to get a single pay grade in 5 years).
The only reason I made it was because I researched what was required to be at that level, and then worked my way backwards in terms of skills development, mentors I'd need, and project experience. Then I made a game plan for taking provided training courses, making deadlines and volunteering, and aggressively reminding my superiors of my roadmap and asking them every month what do they want from me to get that next promotion?

Now that I've hit this goal, my next 5 year goal would be to leverage the shiny new title to move into a lower stress (higher pay) role outside of the company. When you rapidly advance internally.... your pay is left wanting. Also, when you're good at something you tend to get stuck on the most difficult projects (because they trust you can do it).
So step one for me is to find an equivalent position with a much higher pay at a company where the stress cycles aren't nearly as high. This means focussing on what they offer for salary packages, how strongly they enforce work-life balances, and researching any existing employees who've left comments about the company.
After that, spend the first full year of employment overachieving to set a solid standard for my peers / management. See if there are any opportunities internally and adapt my remaining 4 years to settling into a reduction of stress (increase in free time) while maintaining salary growth.

The game design thing is a passion but is delegated to a hobby. I dearly want to make 2 games that have been buzzing around in my brain. However, my free time is very limited and I often settle for short term entertainment to unwind rather than working on a project. For now, I'm fulfilling this desire by meticulously trying to gather the resources I'll need to work on these games. Maybe in a few years I'll reach a point in my life where I can complete one of them. That's a hope though. I'm prioritizing my career / financial / family goals over the game design ones :)

Trauma, drama, llamas--sadly the only one of those things I'm not experiencing RN is the camelids.
Do you ever just write or say nonsense? String together words to make a sentence that sounds pretty but is meaningless?
Writing down my ideas for my next game during break times at work XD I need to finish my current one very soon.
