Hi! I'm currently working in a RPG Maker VX Ace game with Mage/Spellcaster Kittens, my idea for it was using a PTB battle system, but i couldn't figure out how to use it, so a question came over my mind:
I Have RPG Maker MV installed too. Should i use it instead of VX Ace?
Basically its just the question, since i don't really know which rpg maker is best for making games, since most of them have different engines and stuff, lul. (Im open to try and learn to use other engines, since i use VX Ace until now)

No RPG Maker is better than another at "making games."

The two newer entries, MV and MZ, are ultimately more able to be modified than VX Ace because the entire contents of the engine is in each project and you can overwrite any of it with JavaScript plugins.

Of those two, MV has a larger library of existing plugins, but MZ has continued development, support for modern MacOS, and sundry other features you can read in the millions of threads about this.

I don't know what PTB means, but if it's anything reasonably well-known I'd wager you can find either existing plugins or tutorials to recreate it in MV/MZ.

You can pretty much use whichever is most comfortable for you. Do some small stuff in both engines and see which one you like more. Or maybe do some research and see what each engine has to offer.

@ATT_Turan Why are you such a good ninja?

If you’ve already been using VXAce for your game, then I’d say VXAce is a great engine for your game. Remember kiddos, FINISH YOUR GAMES FINISH YOUR GAMES FINISH YOUR GAMES.

There will always and forever be a new and shiny looming somewhere over the horizon. Circle back to this question for your next project. :wub

Hm, makes it kind of sound like the situation I have with MV is pretty good and I don't need MZ.

PTB means Press Turn Battle. Its similar to the battle System used in the Megaten and Persona games.
Anyways, thanks guys, imma research MV better so i see if i switch to MV.

It's definitely something worth considering. It's more capable, plus the sprites and tilesets are bigger too.

Then I have seen many threads about how to replicate it in MV. I don't know about Ace scripts because I don't use it.

@Ms Littlefish makes a good point vis-a-vis duplicating the amount of effort you've already put into your game for the sake of one mechanic in your battle system.

So the concept for my Game Jam project is way more than I can complete before the deadline. But I think I found a way to get the core done and make the incomplete parts either not really noticeable or make them a part of the story for now. That sneaky, dastardly Krampus! Then I can complete the rest. Did I mention that this is fun?
I've been working on a game called "Eternal Sunset". Is there anywhere here i can "show it off" maybe? Wondering what others think.
What do you do when there are lots of offers online but you don't have even a slight chance of ever playing those myriads of games?
Ugh, mispelled my username.
