Which RPG maker should I use?

Hello, I'm relatively new to RPG maker and I have a few questions. Some friends and I want to create an action game similar to Zelda with some RPG elements in it. We've been looking around for a good game engine to make this and I remembered using RPG maker years ago. Looking online and through this site, I'm not really sure which program we should be using. We all have minimal programming experience though a couple of my friends have taken some basic classes dealing with programming. Could anyone direct me to which program would be best? We mostly need our game to allow simple combat much like the top down zelda games, item/gold collecting, possibly some ways to create interesting enemy mechanics. As long as it has a strong foundation for creating more action oriented RPG's that would be great. Thanks in advanced for the help!

Depends on your preference and features. vx ace has the most compatibility but the mapping is lacking compared to xp.

I was looking into vx ace but it seemed like it was fairly complicated for new users to create an action game since its made for turned based games. Is this true? Or is it just as simple to make an action game with.

vx ace is easy, but like with anything in life, requires practice.

RMMV
yes, it is true - but the same is true for XP.

All RPG Makers here are turn-based by default, and you'll need scripts to turn them into action RPGs.

Those scripts are usually called ABS-Scripts around here, there are several available (I think four or five for Ace, don't know how many for XP but I've seen several for XP). And ABS-Scripts are a lot of work to configure your game for - not neccessarily complicated (that depends on the script) but in all cases a lot of work, because most defaults don't work for the ABS scripts and you need to manually set the additional data they need.

As long as the scripts work for what I need I won't mind using them. Any recommended ones I should check out?

Couple hours of work. Might use in my game as a secret find or something. Not sure. Fancy though no? :D
Holy stink, where have I been? Well, I started my temporary job this week. So less time to spend on game design... :(
Cartoonier cloud cover that better fits the art style, as well as (slightly) improved blending/fading... fading clouds when there are larger patterns is still somewhat abrupt for some reason.
Do you Find Tilesetting or Looking for Tilesets/Plugins more fun? Personally I like making my tileset for my Game (Cretaceous Park TM) xD
