So i really need support with this. I have tried many FREE recording programs to record pieces of my game to make a small 40 second video to post along with my game however the graphics suck really bad. The finished recording looks a little laggy and choppy but when ever i look at other projects their videos look completely HD and smooth without lag. I'd like to know what program you're all running to get the HD recording done right. I want to be able to impress. I don't want to have to pay but at this point if i have to and the price is right i might have too, after all... All carecully developed things sometimes come at a price right?

Jing, or screencast. I think those are the free products that TechSmith has. To avoid having a logo on your video, record it larger than normal then crop out the logo.

I use Bandicam and i'm very pleased with it.

You can download and test it if you want. The Free version has only two restrictions: maximum of ten minutes, adds Watermark on every video.

Just test it to see if this is what you need. Afterwards you can buy it if it's right. :)

I use Open Broadcast Software (OBS).

Completely free, HD, streamable, no limit, and no watermark.

It can record as much as your computer can handle, and can also be set to only record inside certain windows.

By far the best I have ever used.

I agree with Obsidian. I've tried plenty of free video recording software and I found OBS to be the best. Though it is a bit trickier to set up since you will have to change a few settings but its nothing a quick google search can't help with.

This goes for every high usage program, but you are best off closing any inessential program while recording to reduce lag.

If you are recording a demo for your game, close out of everything other than your game and the recorder, and maybe even turn off the internet for the best possible quality (and to ensure no pesky outside Steam/Skype/etc notifications).

One issue I have with OBS is sometimes the audio is recorded a note or so above what the actual game audio is when recording in or converting to MP4, but I have never encountered that problem using RPG Maker. Must just be my settings. Something I have to look into.

For minimal filesize, try not to do a fullscreen record, and trim out any unwanted footage with a movie editing program.

As Quasi said, OBS takes a few minutes to set up, but if you are a user of game making software, you are probably already used to learning new things.

This might help first time users with settings, and here are some quick start guides for streaming and recording.

OBS is very good. A bit confusing, but it is free and you can customize your settings a lot.

I personally use Bandicam, I find it works very well for recording just video, and you can add webcams and microphones over it with ease. Same thing with OBS, but, you know.

Try both of them out and see what you like! I personally use OBS for streaming only, and Bandicam to record my PC. I also use Avermedia Live Gamer Portable Lite for console recording, just in case you were wondering.

Just beat the last of us 2 last night and starting jedi: fallen order right now, both use unreal engine & when I say i knew 80% of jedi's buttons right away because they were the same buttons as TLOU2 its ridiculous, even the same narrow hallway crawl and barely-made-it jump they do. Unreal Engine is just big budget RPG Maker the way they make games nearly identical at its core lol.
Can someone recommend some fun story-heavy RPGs to me? Coming up with good gameplay is a nightmare! I was thinking of making some gameplay platforming-based, but that doesn't work well in RPG form*. I also was thinking of removing battles, but that would be too much like OneShot. I don't even know how to make good puzzles!
one bad plugin combo later and one of my followers is moonwalking off the screen on his own... I didn't even more yet on the new map lol.
time for a new avatar :)
